Question and Answer Interview from the Douglas O'Keeffe Online Message Board October 3, 2001 Continued |
4. From Dee You seem the complete opposite of what you play on screen...how did you get into playing the baddies? Do you enjoy it, since most people I have seen say that the roles are more meaty and more demanding for the actors to portray? Are you ever worried that you are being type cast or are you secure that there will always be bad seeds to portray? 4. Dee...well I get the "baddies" cause as yet I haven't got the lead. And, alas, perhaps I understand them and portray them well too. To speculate why...well, that would I guess lie in the life experiences I've had and the powers of observation and interests I've cultivated. The roles are meaty and multi-dimensional because I don't think even the "baddies" ever want to be thought of by the ones they love as "BAD". A great many people want to be feared in hopes that they will have less fear themselves of attack. This is a delusion but it is none-the-less the mechanism of such behavior. So these characters are interesting. Am I secure in the fact that there will always be bad seeds? No, I am insecure if that is a fact...I look for the day where we no longer need conflict to have our interest held, that fear will no longer be so exciting and entertaining and that we won't have to overcome evil powers to enjoy bliss. It's coming. And hopefully by that time there will be more roles for good guys who look like me ;) I got the impression from being at the convention that the love aspect of the show aka Michael and Nikita was the most riveting aspect to many people...SO...am I afraid of being typecast? Well I have been I guess. I even wondered for a period of time if I should accept anymore of those roles, but I'm not feeling that right now. I just try and do a good job and show the side of the "baddie" that is aware of the mess they have created for themselves. 5. From Elle What was your first thought wehn you got invited for CQS4 and what do you consider the nicest role you have ever played? 5. Elle...the conference...my first thoughts...WOW, these people all know me. Then, these people are very nice. Then...I like this room. Then, it's nice to be here and experience this. then, I am very fortunate. The nicest role?...I am assuming you mean which character was the "nicest" personality-wise?...If that is what you mean, I would have to say...hmmm...that's a tough one. Gotta check my resume...maybe Von in Sinbad or Captain Warrick in Andromeda...although Warrick was making out with the ship's computer at least he was into self-sacrifice for the cause...Bruno in Dark Angel was nice to his daughter...short list huh? 6. From Dee It was so great that you brought your mother to the dinner at the Con...I wonder how her take was on all that went on that night? 6. Dee...my mother's take? Well I always wonder. She seemed happy don't you think? Do we ever really know what goes on inside their minds? 7. From Hullieslass What were the episode titles of your appearances on Katts and Dog and what season/s were they in? 7. Hullieslass...Katt's and Dog...I think the episode was called "Ship of Fools" in perhaps the second season. I was also in one episode the first season, the name of which I can not remember. I played hired thug/security. Suprised? Don't blink in either. (**according to IMDb, Doug appeared in episode 3.11 "On the Take" airing in 1990, and episode 4.13 "Ship of Fools" airing in 1991) 8. From Hullieslass In the tradition of being a devout hockey fan and you hailing from traditional hockey country, I'm curious to know what your favorite team is and who your favorite player's is/are (both all-time and still active). 8. Hullieslass...fave hockey team has been the Maple Leafs. My dad and I went to a lot of games when I was a kid and that's the home team for me. Favorite all-time player...the one and only...Bobby Orr. Active...me. Love the hockey!!! |
