Doug was an invited guest at Close Quarters Standby 4, a La Femme Nikita convention held May 25-27, 2001 in Toronto, Canada. Appearing on the guest panel participating in the Q&A, he held his own amidst his fellow actors and the many attendees. Doug also gave generously of his time working as an auctioneer at the charity auction where his own donated and autographed items went for well-earned amounts as the fans bid enthusiatically against each other,
all to benefit his charity, Greenpeace.
At the Saturday night banquet, Doug received a Gemstone Award for best "SOTW" for his portrayal of David Fanning. In case you are wondering, "SOTW" stands for Slime/Scum of the Week...in other words, the Bad Guy!
Doug was very gracious to all as he signed autographs, posed for pictures and even was found hanging out in the hotel lounge with the con goers!
