Main population of Muar are Malay and Chinese races. Chinese immigrants came in masses to Malay Peninsular from south China from as early as 1886. However, small number of immigrants came since the 16th and 17th. century. The Malays consist of Aborogines and Malays migrated from Kedah, Perak and Selangor. Javanese, Boyan and Bugis races migrated to the Malay Peninsular from islands around the peninsular.
