Boku Ga Kienai You Ni...
[And I Never Fade...]

Gackt finds himself slowly traveling down a dark hallway, in silence. He soon comes upon a heavy wooden door which softly opens, allowing him to enter it's room. Gackt's eyes take a moment to adjust to the dim lighting. A large canopy bed, draped in opaque fabrics dominates the space; sparsely placed candles illuminate a presence upon it's dark blankets. Thousands of lavender butterflies flicker in a strange and careful heap, creating a curious shape. They soon rise, fading away in the darkness, revealing a still form below. Gackt instinctively moves toward the bed. He sees a beautiful face before him, framed by endless chocolate-brown hair. Shadows from the candlelight dance across it's closed eyes. Gackt's hand reaches down to gently touch the lovely creature. Before his fingers reach their destination, the silent eyes below him suddenly open widely, staring ahead into nothing. Gackt gasps: "Kami..."

Thrown back into reality, Gackt finds himself in his bed, surrounded by the night. It had only been a dream. Gackt sighs softly and falls back into his pillows. "Je t'aime." He whispers sadly, as he falls back to sleep.

Morning wakes Gackt; an eerie feeling warns him of a pair of eyes that are watching him. He glances at the foot of his bed to see the spirit of a young boy staring into him. It soon fades away. In his mind, Gackt whimpers, he can never become used to these visitors. The emotional turmoil of the previous year had ressurected his ability to see the dead, much to Gackt's dismay.

He climbs out of bed and moves into the bathroom. Looking into the mirror, he remembers the vivid dream. Oblivious to his reflection, he fights back tears.

Kami stops the car and Gackt opens the door stepping onto the sand. "A beach?" Kami walks around the car and heads through the night towards the water. "Yeah, its the best view around." Gackt is a bit disappointed, he had expected a cityscape. He follows Kami and stops beside him, admiring the view. Kami says nothing, looking out onto the dark waters. Gackt's eyes stray from the ocean and he observes his friend. The half moon above them shines just enough to highlight Kami's features. His face is peaceful and quiet, Gackt dares not speak. A sweet sea breeze caresses his face and toys with Kami's long hair. Gackt can not break his stare, why had he not noticed Kami's beauty before now? Kami turns his head to meet Gackt's gaze, hair dancing in the wind.

Gackt lowers his face from the mirror and lets the tears escape.

It is a dreary day, rain descends and faint thunder can be heard occasionally. Gackt is miserable with the memories that the dream had evoked. Walking to a nearby cafe, steady streams of people huddled under umbrellas hurry by. Gackt tries not to notice the spirits of those passed on mingling with the living. A bell above the door jingles as he enters the cafe.

Taking a seat by a window, Gackt cradles his tea, and allows his mind to wander.

In the quiet of backstage, Gackt flops into his chair. Looking into his vanity mirror, he begins to remove his make up from the performance. So engrossed is he in removing eyeliner, that he does not notice Kami standing behind him. He catches Kami's image in the mirror, Kami speaks: "I saw the way you looked at me tonight Camui, something has changed in you." Gackt swallows nervously and slowly meets Kami's stare in the reflection, how could he know? "You know that you can tell me anything Camui." Gackt could not speak, he could never see himself confessing such a thing to Kami. He looks back at his own reflection. Kami brings his hands to Gackt's hair and tossles it softly. Gackt purred at his touch, the first true sign of affection from Kami...perhaps no confession was needed.

Gackt smiles at this remembrance, he now knew what that first touch would lead to. He sips the warm tea and rests his head in his hand. His eyes strain again. Why did he have to ruin it all and change things? Why could he never be satisfied?

His long hair masks his face, Gackt is unable to read his expressions. "So you are serious? You are leaving?" Kami is turned away and does not see when Gackt nods. Gackt had run over the list of excuses numerous times in his head...yet none seem appropriate for now, so he remains silent. It did not matter, Kami does not bother to ask for any reasons. Gackt began to question himself...was he right to leave? After all that the band had done for him? ...Was he right to leave Kami?

This last thought hurts Gackt the most, he pushes away from the table and runs from the cafe.

As though he could escape the torment, he races home through the stinging rain. Throwing open the door, he tosses his jacket on the floor of his apartment and collapses on the piano bench. For a moment, Gackt weeps into his hands, as if to wash away the pain. He leans on the piano, burrowing his head in his arms. A sheet of music is disturbed and it rustles againt Gackt's ear. Gackt quiets himself and lifts his head. Staring intently into the music sheet, he recognizes the piece. It was the piano solo that he had preformed on tour, the solo that Kami would always accompany him in. He sits up straight and places the music in front of him. He begins to play.

He knows the melody by heart, the notes come unconsciously.

"No, that's not so, I met with him yesterday, he was completely fine. Is this some sort of joke?" He laughs nervously, but a horrendous fear within him forces tears to the surface.

The tempo solidifies, Gackt stares coldly ahead as the memories continue to emerge.

He is driving fast, too fast. The sun has set. He hurridly stops at a dark and deserted beach, the same that Kami had shown him months before.

The notes begin to climb.

Knee-deep in the cold ocean, fists clenched, he screams. He screams promises and secrets that would no longer be kept. He screams of his hurt, his pain, his lonliness.

It is the height of the song, painful rememberances continue to mercilessly flash into Gackt's mind.

He is singing Je Te Veux and dancing for a smiling Kami in front of the drums.

They are picking out outfits at the mall, Kami is laughing at the silly jacket Gackt tries on.

Gackt wakes in the morning to the gorgeously peaceful sight of a sleeping Kami beside him.

The song ends, the excruciating fragments of the past flood together, and overflow. Gackt clenches the keyboard and stares to the floor. Liquid drops of anquish spill from his eyes. The room is eerily quiet.

He realizes someone is watching him. He slowly tilts his head, tears streaming down his paled cheeks. His eyes grow wide at what he sees. He holds his breath. Beside him stands a very familiar figure, for a change, the faint aura of the visitor is serene. It's understanding face is surrounded by a cascade of endless chocolate-brown hair. It's gentle eyes close.

Gackt sings beautifully from within: "Boku ga kienai you ni..." With this closing lyric, he faces the crowd before him, yet he sees nothing. Gackt reaches out to the sky as it illuminates with thousands of stars, not a soul can hear as he whispers: "...Kami". The haunting voices of the choir echo over the landscape, yet he is immersed in silence. He is lifted from the stage, the large gothic wings seem to carry him to the empty heavens above. The band members see him off, raising their arms to him. Rising above them, Gackt's eyes fall to meet Kami's gaze. The violet butterfly longingly reaches up to him. As the darkness envelops Gackt and he moves farther and farther away from his love, he is just able to read Kami's lips as he silently repeats Gackt's words. "Boku ga kienai you ni..."

Rest in peace Kami-chan.
