Here I am holding my touring bike that I built. This photo was taken by a friend while we were touring Europe in 1994 (Netherlands, Belgum, Germany and Switzerland). These Dutch teenagers were impressed with the bike. They had no end of questions.
Below is another view of this bike while I was on another tour (this time in 1991 in Vermont, New Hampshire). Take a look at the strange black waterbottle under the downtube and the Sanyo generator mounted where a kickstand would normally be. These are actually my power sources for my lighting system. I had an arrangement that would either power the lights from the generator or from the battery inside that black bottle. I could also use the generator to recharge the battery. Long downhills were handy for that. The funny-looking white bag on the rear rack is ice for our food and beer. This was the end-of-the-day grocery stop.
