Shadow of Despair
By Ami
There's something about terror and fear I can't quite associate with Scully.  I remember laughing during "How the Ghosts Stole Christmas" solely because that was the first time I think we'd ever seen Scully piss-in-her-pants scared.  Scully and fear dont seem to sit comfortably in the same sentence, and placing the two in a poem together can be difficult.  For that, Ami deserves kudos.
'Shadow of Despair', a poem about nightmares and true terror, almost seems afraid itself.  Timid of broaching any deeper feelings than an unnamed anxiety.  The imagery and descriptions are there, but I cannot sense the heart of it.  I can almost feel Ami lingering between the darkness of her poem and the need to bring light and reason towards the end for closure.
There were grammatical problems, but they were small and discreetly distracting.  I was most enraptured by the line "Could it be that my heart has crystalized?" though I dont know why.  Though the words and motions were there, 'Shadow of Despair' felt a bit lacking in true emotions.  It wholly makes up for it with the conclusion which is too heartbreakingly beautiful to consider just once.  I hope Ami returns to the topic soon.  'Shadow' seemed to me a solid and comfortable poem.  Maybe that's why it was lacking in true fear...  3.5/5
