Description

This is a 5-tube AM radio with bakelite case painted a cream colour. As received it was working, but had an unsafe line cord, broken pilot lamp, and was very dusty inside. The seller said it took a long time to warm up -- no doubt tbecause the 35L6GT tube had been replaced with a 50L6GT. A crack in the top of the case had been repaired, poorly, some time ago. The paint was worn, especially around the knobs. The grille clothe is actually metal window screen and appears to be original. Two tubes had come loose in shipping but were okay. I think the pilot lamp was likely broken during shipping. The speaker has some tears in the cone. As received it had a noticeable hum. I did not power it up for long before recapping it.

The radio caught my eye on eBay because I had one of the same model as a teenager. It had belonged to my grandmother, and it was my bedside radio during grade nine. I believe mine had red knobs but was also beige. Strangely, the radio is smaller than I remembered it. It is also the first Westinghouse radio in my collection.

I found a schematic for a model W576A in RCC which appears to be the same circuit. I replaced all electrolytic and paper capacitors, tested the tubes, and replaced the pilot lamp and line cord. I cleaned the chassis and case and adjusted the alignment.
