Nabiki's Error--Happosai's Opportunity

By the koi pond Kodachi delivered her black roses to Ranma. He wisely batted them away, sending them into the Tendo home through an open window. Never one to let an opportunity go unexploited Nabiki carefully bagged and hid the roses. Kodachi leaped atop an innocent looking blue and white mailbox and launched her ribbon at Ranma intending to tie him up and carry him off.

Inside the Tendo home Tatewaki presented his black roses to Akane who instantly handed them off to her father while keeping them at arms length. Soun quickly discarded the roses but not before inhaling their fragrance. Tatewaki feared for a moment that the potion would make Soun fall in love with him. Soun felt instead an attraction for his daughter Akane. Both men began acting strangely. Realizing what Tatewaki had tried to do, Soun fought against the potion and attacked Tatewaki, sending him flying from the Tendo home and into Kodachi as her ribbon snaked toward Ranma. Kodachi's aim was ruined and the mailbox sent the Kuno siblings flying from the Tendo property.

Nabiki took possession of the second bouquet of roses and put them with the others. When Kasumi called everyone to eat Soun was crying while huggung Akane as he fought against the potion.

While everyone was distracted by Soun's emotional display, Nabiki stirred Ranma's and Akane's drinks with one of the roses. Believing the roses to contain Kodachi's usual sleeping potion Nabiki saw an irresistable photo opportunity. Soun knocked Akane's drink over and splashed Ranma and Genma.

When the meal was finished Ranma insulted Akane's cooking. Nabiki looked on in relief as Akane struck with the frying pan in her hand instead of reaching for her mallet which would have sent Ranma flying away from the photo session she was hoping for.

The potion kicked in and Ranma fixated on the only human male in the room. All that stood between Ranma and Soun were beaten down, especially the panda. Eventually Akane got in another hit with the frying pan while Ranma was busy with other things. Because of the severity of the blows Ranma lost the memory of the events which occurred between them.

Soun was afraid that his attraction for Akane would return. To prevent this or at least give him an outlet for these passions he demanded that Ranma become his wife. Soun and Genma argued over this until Genma finally caved-in and left. When tests revealed Ranma's pregnancy any chance of things returning to normal(?) ended. Happosai was delighted when he found out.

Ranma did the only thing she could to get out of the shotgun wedding. She ran. The race ended months later when Ranma and Ryoga took shelter in the same warehouse. Ranma and the baby would have died if Akane and the search party had arrived any later. Nodoka forced Ranma to go through with the weding .

Ranma took over the household chores after the birth of Hiro. Kasumi moved out to marry Dr. Tofu as soon as she fely that Ranma was able to handle the household chores.

Happosai made his move during this time of confusion. He used a magic spell to switch bodies with Soun. Happosai in Soun's body sold Soun in Happosai's body to Pantyhose Taro with the understanding that Happosai's body would be taken so far away that he would never be seen again. Pantyhose took him back to where their feud began-Jusenkyo. Pantyhose bashed Happosai's body around until Soun managed to give him permission to change his name. After Pantyhose left him Soun crawled to a nearby pool of water to get a drink. The nannichiuan water gave him the body of a young man. The trip back to Nerrima took several months.

Arriving in Nerrima Soun checked on his family. He knew that he couldn't tackle Happosai directly. In his cursed form Soun got a job at the licquer store where Happosai was buying sake. Soun began poisoning the sake that Happosai was buying. Soun figured that when Happosai got sick enough he would reverse the spell. Soun enrolled in classes at the dojo and eventually knocked the sword from another student's hand during practice and sent it flying at Happosai.

When death claimed Happosai, Soun went to tell his family only to discover that Ranma and Hiro had already left. In his cursed form he went to Nabiki for help in finding Ranma.

Okaasan is the end result of all the attacks on Ranma's masculinity. The marriage to Soun and the pregnancy crushed Ranma's self-image. The final and most important factor in the creation of okaasan is that Ranma realized that Hiro needed a mother figure and that Ranma was that mother figure. For okaasan to vanish and the old Ranma to return is impossible. That image has been destroyed. Okaasan will be around until Hiro no longer needs her.
