SUHANTO,
S.H./IN THE LINE OF DUTY Suhanto, S.H., Headmaster/Principal of Wikarya High School of Economics, Karanganyar, Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. He is also a founder of a magazine for educational essays, articles and news, called X-POS, which address is Perum Pelita Street B-05, Karanganyar, Surakarta 57715, Jawa Tengah, Indonesia. Contributions in the forms of essays and articles on education (written in Indonesian language) are welcome. In formal suit as Headmaster. Wikarya High School of Economics is a private school, and as Indonesian private schools have been so, it must struggle to meet its ends by itself without any help from the Government. Worse, it is a "tradition" for Indonesian education system that specialized schools are treated worse, or neglected, compared to public schools (which are called simply "High School"s in Indonesia, without specialization in any studies). The private and specialized schools must live on their own, and everything from the building, equipment, teachers' salaries, and so on, must be financed by themselves, relying on tuition fees from the students. Although private schools are much cheaper than public schools in Indonesia, the misconception that public schools (financed by the Government) are of better quality makes them hard to get students to enroll. It is a tough business if you ask me. But Mr. Suhanto believes in education, and moreover affordable education for rural youth. In casual garment with wife. His hobbies are chess, tennis, soccer, and music. He loves to sing at parties. With colleague and in-law, Widarso Hatmo Suwito, whose nephew is married to his daughter on May 2004. Mr. Hatmo Suwito is a senior teacher at Wikarya High School of Economics, and they both have been with the school since it was established in late 1970's. Giving
speech is a routine for a Headmaster. I think he almost loves it,
LOL.
