volunteers. You can join them in this work!! Previous seagoing
experience is not required.
Volunteering on the S/S JEREMIAH O'BRIEN is categorized as follows:
Deck Department-
DECK :The Deck Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the cargo gear, maintenance of the ship's structures, ship handling while underway and general seamanship. If you have experience or a desire and talent for learning this, we need you. The ship has a training program for volunteers seeking to become able-bodied seaman.
Radio Department
Shipboard Electronic Equipment, Provides Sound Source for Special
Functions, and Maintains Contact with Amateur Radio Community.
Steward Department
Housekeeping, Cleaning, Food Preparation, Cooking and Stores including
Working in the Galley, Messroom or Lockers.
Ship's Store
Sales of Souveniors, Restocking and Ordering.
Purser Department
Shipboard Paperwork, Scheduling the Gate and Gangway Watch and Other
Shipboard Administrative Duties.
Gunnery
Paint, Lube, Clean, Chip, Disassemble and Maintain Weaponry On Board
Ship and Act as Ship's Police Force by Request of the Captain.
Shoreside Office
Organization's Administrative Duties Outside the Ship, Computers,
Reception and Special projects.
Docent Department
Conduct Scheduled Ship's Tours of the Ship, Gangway Watch/Greeter,
Conduct Small Informal Tours, Man Ticket Booth and Collect Admission
Fees.
Engine Department
Shipboad Machinery Including the Operation and Maintenance of the
Engineroom and Steering Engineroom Machinery, Refrigeration Equipment,
Deck Machinery, and Related Electrical, Steam, Bilge and Hydraulic, All
Fuel and Water Tanks and Related Piping.
