"ANYONE CAN PLAY AN INSTRUMENT AND SCREAM INTO A MIC" AND OTHER MUSICAL FAUX PAS
I'm not kidding when I put quotation marks around this sentence. I've heard two different people say the exact same thing on two seperate occasions. One of them does listen to some heavy music, while the other one's opinion makes less of an impact because they listen to shitty hip-hop and the like such as Lindsay Lohan, Justin Timberlake and, get this, the HAMPSTER-FUCKING-DANCE! This guy is in his late twenties and he's listening to this shit? And then he makes this bullshit statement that anyone can play an instrument and sing into a mic? Fuck you morons.

The main reason why your opinions don't mean jack shit is because neither of you idiots actually play a musical instrument. I've been playing guitar for over three years now, I'm the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for my band, and I know just how hard and how easy it is to play guitar and sing "into a mic". If you think it's so easy to play a guitar and sing at the same time then why don't you give it a shot? Pick up a guitar and just try it. I've actually seen one of them play guitar before (after which I took my guitar back from them and beat them senseless with it) and it proved to me that they didn't know what they were talking about. Learning to play guitar takes hours upon hours of practice before you can finally master the difficult task of doing three things at the same time (Picking with your right hand, fingering with your left, and singing). I mean, if this other guy can make this claim, then I could make the claim that any hip-hop artist could just find a DJ, get them to make a few tunes with their turn table, then sing lyrics along with it and take all the credit for the song. Personally I don't even think that rapping is too hard. Anyone can just sit down with the right music and write out lyrics to go along with them. Most of the words don't even have to rhyme. All they have to do is give the impression of rhyming (an example of this would be to rhyme "fight" with "time"). I will admit that freestyle rapping does show talent. Freestyle rapping is for talent as break dancing is for...dancing.

As for the screaming aspect of music, I'm tired of hearing people say that there is no musical talent in heavy metal screaming (such as music by Cradle Of Filth, Slipknot, and Atreyu) because the same arguement that I used before applys to this one. If these people think that screaming is so easy then why don't they try it? Personally, I believe if it's something that a majority of people could do then that means that it is easy, but if only a handful can do it, then it is hard. Most people I know (myself included) would never be able to scream with the same power that bands like Slipknot do.

The only way that saying that there's no talent in the musical world could be valid would be if the person can actually scream or play guitar and they felt that it ws way too easy, but then again that still doesn't cover everyone. I'm bored now, I'm going to go eat an owl.
