Time for a battle between musicians (and I use the term loosely here). I'll let you be the judge of which you think is the better musician based off of my opinions of each band. Naturally you'll have to agree with me because I'm always right, and if you disagree with me you are wrong. So pay attention.
First off, I know none of you have heard of the band called "One True Thing" but that's only because you're all crazy and just don't comprehend how much they kick ass. You'd rather watch music videos and listen to the radio and make a band your favorite band even though they're new to the music scene, and will probably end up being a one hit wonder, and then where would you be? The bands that you like automatically make it big not because of their sound, but because of their music videos that lure people into thinking the band is good, when really all they do is throw together a shitty video and you people buy into it(ie. the white stripes). Bands like One True Thing are a prime example that the best music you'll hear is all underground. One True Thing started back in 1994 and still don't have an album out, due to complications of record companies being major pains in the ass. You can find their music on any music downloading program (ie. Kazaa) which is the only way you'll be able to hear them until their album currently tittled "Finally" (Which is scheduled to come out sometime soon) comes out in stores. Until then, download their music, sit back, and get ready to be taken to a world of music that doesn't majorly blow.
Unlike other music written by female singers, the lead vocalist of One True Thing (Melanie Wills) doesn't write songs pertaining to the same old shit again and again. Her song "Dearest" Is written about a girl living with an abusive father. Her song "Bloom" is written about growing old and dying with remorse. It's not the same thing that other singers write about (Like love or falling out of love), and her originality doesn't sound like shit. Her voice is like an angel, and many may find this majorly fucked up, but I swear to god I could masturbate to the sound of her voice alone. Listen to One True Thing or go to hell.
As for the second singer, I have a joke for you. What do you call a shitty singer for a shitty band that decided to go solo, only to make another shitty song that sounds like all her other shitty songs with her shitty vocals? You call her little Ms. shitty singer gwen stefani. Did I drag that one out too long? Who cares? The point here is that she is by far the worst female singer I ever heard, and I mean that. Her voice sounds whiney, drawn out, and has this piercing tone to it that's not unlike dragging your fingernails down a chalkboard. Why she ever thought that she was good enough to ever go solo is beyond me.
I watched her new video (sometimes I hate videos by bands) called "what are you waiting for?" the other night, and I'm still washing my eyes out with disinfectant to cleanse them of the bullshit I just saw. They drag out the beginning of the video for a few shitty hours, pissing me off with some stupid bullshit about her being bored, trying to write a song but not having inspiration to do so (like it matters, we wouldn't even understand what the hell she's saying anyways). I find it kind of ironic how she's playing pong at the begining of the video, and listening to her and watching her video is just as fun as a game of pong. Then after awhile, we're old and impotent, and finally the music kicks in. I can't remember exactely how the music sounded (I'm sure it was shitty) because everything was drowned out by gwen's awful vocals and shrill "slit my wrists with a butterknife" voice. What style of music is she? I don't know either, but either way, it'll still sound like someone getting a baseball bat driven into their nuts. As if the vocals aren't bad enough, the lyrics look as if they were written by a lobotomy patient. Hell, I'm sure even a lobotomy patient could come up with a song that has a better meaning than this piece of shit. This song, and gwen stefani in general scores a perfect ten on my "reasons to commit homicide" scale.
I'll end off with the lyrics to a song, each by both musicians, and with that I want you to see for yourself why my reasons are valid.
