1. The Tattle Tale Heart
The Colonol, Ruth, and George are back from their cruise and they are visiting to see the twins for the first time. Eric is dreading about telling his parents that Julie is married and pregnant. Julie tells them herself and introduces them to her husband, Dr. Hank Hastings. Matt gets an apartment with his best friend, John, and moves out of the house. Mary and Lucy ask Hank to get Matt a job at the hospital and Hank gets him one as a cafeteria worker. Mary and Lucy move into the attic, Ruthie moves into Mary and Lucy's old room, and Sam and David move into Ruthie's old room. Eric has a heart attack. Matt, Mary, Lucy, Simon, Ruthie, Sam, and David spend the night with Annie after she calls Eric and they all say good night.
2. Life Is Too Beautiful
Eric is home from the hospital and needs to relax which causes a family problem because they all need him. Annie tries to help Mary with her math homework, but gets nowhere. Lucy joins Habitat for Humanity. Simon tries to be the man of the house and gets mad at Matt because he was making fun of his shaving. Ruthie doesn't listen to a thing Simon says. One of the neighbors comes over to help Annie and helps Mary with her math. Shana shows John around campus and Matt gets jealous because she also cleaned their apartment. Eric is very happy to be alive and is driving everyone crazy.
3. Yak Sada (One Voice)
Eric tries to council a couple that is getting married. The man thinks a wife is a husband's servant. Simon takes home ec class so he can be with Deena and he is the only boy in the class. Later he changes to woodshop. Annie fixes a skirt for Shana because she's reuniting with her father. Ruthie joins the football team. Her and Mary try to keep it a secret, but Annie finds out. Annie and Lucy fight for the women of Afghanistan. The couple calls off the wedding and Annie does Sunday's sermon.
4. Come Drive With Me
Eric goes to a car dealer with Ruthie, and he needs a raise so that he can buy a car. Annie and Lucy install a new bathroom next to the attic, and Mary feels left out because she was supposed to help them. Matt decides he wants to be a doctor after talking to a patient. Simon thinks a girl likes him and is forced by Deena to ask her about it. Ruthie goes to the church and explains why her father needs a raise. The church gives him a raise so he and Ruthie buy an electrical car. Matt tells everyone that he wants to be a doctor.
5. With Honors
Simon's friend, Lee, drops a bag of marijuana in the kitchen that he's hiding from his father so that his dad will stop smoking it. Eric, Annie, Sergeant Michaels, and Lee's grandmother help Lee talk to his father and he decides to get help. Matt tries to help a guy named James study. James offers to pay Matt to let him copy his test but Matt says no and James gets caught copying from someone else. Ruthie is trying to get $29.99 so she can buy walkie talkies. Mary finds out her friend Corey had a baby when she was 14. The school takes away Corey's half of a basketball award that her and Mary were supposed to share because they think giving her the award encourages teen pregnancy. Mary decides Corey's the real hero and gives her the award. Lucy works in the school office one morning and is asked by a guy to break into the school computers to change his grades.
6. Just You Wait And See
Julie gets mad at Hank and comes to stay with Eric. Ruthie finds a cat on the porch and decides to keep it. Later, the cat's owner comes to get it and gives Ruthie a $20 reward. Eric goes to the hospital to talk to Hank. The two of them and Matt go out to dinner. Simon and Mary go to the Pool Hall for dinner and meet a girl, Diane, who likes Simon. Deena catches Simon teaching Diane how to play pool. Lucy gets her drivers license and goes out on a date with Andrew Nayloss and does everything. Julie goes into labor, and while she's in labor, her and Hank solve their argument. In Eric and Annie's bed Julie gives birth to a baby girl. Julie and Hank name her Erica, after Eric and Annie.
7. Sin...
Coach Cleary stages a lockout on the Wildcats because their grades kept dropping after repeated warnings that this would happen if they didn't study. Simon gets caught by his principal, mother, and little sister giving the finger to his friends and claims it was just a guy thing. Annie gets really mad so Simon thinks she doesn't want him anymore. Ruthie tries to act like a guy and gives Matt the finger asking him what it means. Simon's principal suspends him for three days. Coach Cleary holds a meeting about the lockout. After they hear what the coach says, Eric and Annie decide to support the lockout. Ruthie and Simon overhear Mary say something on the phone that they know meant something but they're not sure what it meant. They go to Guy's Night at Matt's. Mary and her friends go out to dinner. After dinner, they break into the school gym and vandalize it. The police show up and they get arrested.
8. ...And Expiation
Eric and Annie come to pick up Mary from jail, and Sergeant Michaels tells them they need a lawyer. Eric's friend, Bill Mayes, says Mary can get in the Diversion Program, which includes Community Service, even though the chances are small. Mary meets with a worker of the Diversion Program and thankfully gets in. Matt moves back in and then moves out again, because he thinks he's not needed. Ruthie and Simon have guilt gut so they go to every church they can find because they think if they told their parents what they heard Mary say, she might not be in trouble. Everyone blames themselves for what Mary did and Eric explains to them that they don't need to keep secrets from him because his heart is fine. Mary and her friends appear in Student Court and Lucy gives a speech about their mistake saying how they can learn from it and how it will help other people. Mary loses her scholarship. She and her friends clean the gym.
9. Dirty Laundry
One of the parishoners gives the church a $20,000 check which was her retrievement money. Eric has her meet one of his friends that knew her brother. Shana and Matt have an argument because Matt thinks they need to see a counselor. Lucy hears Shana and Matt talking about intimacy, and thinks they're having sex, but they're really talking about doing their laundry together. Lucy gets invited to a party but doesn't know if she should go because the Wildcats are officially banned, which means Mary can't go. Ruthie and her new friends make one of their classmates cry. When Ruthie apologizes she becomes her friend. Instead of talking to a counselor, Annie talks to Shana. Simon reads a book and it gets him in a bad mood, which gets everyone in a bad mood. Everyone apologizes which gets everyone in a good mood.
10. Who Nose
Eric is one of Shana's references to get into NYU. Matt finds out before Shana tells him and gets mad. Simon starts a project for the holidays with guys that inhale spray paint fumes. One of the guys ends up in the hospital and almost dies. Mary falls in love with a guy she works with at Community Service named Robbie Palmer. Eric and Annie have him transferred to a different location, but allow him to call Mary. Ruthie makes molds of everyone's noses for an art project and wins 1st place.
11. Forget Me Not
Ginger arrives at the Camden house to tell Annie that her father, Charles, has Alzheimers. When Charles arrives he tells her that Ginger's the one with Alzheimers, because he doesn't want anyone to worry about him. When Charles admits he's the one that has it, they go see a doctor that specializes with Alzheimers. Mary gets upset because Eric won't let her go out on a date with Robbie, so Mary and Eric make a deal: He can come over to the house. Ruthie is worried that after the Millenium nothing will work. Lucy skips Habitat for Humanity to go out with Brad Landers and gets caught, so her Habitat friends get mad at her. Shana goes to New York to look for an apartment, so Matt is depressed. Simon was going to spend the night at Matt's, but leaves because Matt is ignoring him.
12. All By Myself
Annie goes to the beach for the weekend and leaves Eric in charge of the house. Mary, Simon, Ruthie, and Eric sit on the couch all day doing nothing. The house is a mess. Lucy goes out with Brad and then breaks up with him because she realizes she likes Andrew, after he tags along on her date. Simon and Deena have an argument and then make up. Ruthie is mad at Annie because she went away for the weekend. Sam and David make a huge mess in their room with diapers and baby powder. Mary waits for Robbie to call, which he never does. Matt helps Shana pack and then they say goodbye to each other because she is moving to New York to go to NYU. Annie makes a new friend, Hattie.
13. Who Do You Trust
Mary and Robbie have permission to go to the movies, but they have to double date with Lucy and Robbie's brother, Rick. Simon and Nigel buy cigarettes for a school project and want to try them, but they get caught. Eric catches Lucy and Rick making out on the bench outside the movie theater. Ruthie won't tell anyone what her science project is unless they give her a dollar. Her project is about alchemy. Everyone pays her so the straw that's in the bag turns into gold (the money). Matt is depressed without Shana. John cooks dinner for two of their neighbors but instead of eating, they're calming Matt because he started to cry. When Rick and Robbie get home, Robbie's other girlfriend is waiting.
14. Words
Bill and Sheila, new parishoners, have a son, Bobby, with Tourettes Syndrome. Bill doesn't want to believe it because he thinks it's his fault that Bobby has Tourettes. Bill talks to Eric and decides to help his wife and son deal with it. Ruthie tells Lucy that her teacher, Ms. Riddle, calls her stupid. Ruthie overhears Lucy telling Annie and gets mad because she wasn't supposed to tell anyone. Annie goes to see Ms. Riddle and she calls Annie stupid too. Mary is mad at Simon because of something he said. Simon defends Bobby from one of the jocks. Some of Mary's friends make fun of a girl, Denise, who wears flannel. Mary sticks up for her and becomes her friend. Heather moves back to Glen Oak so Matt is avoiding Shana's phone calls. It turns out, Ms. Riddle calls all of her students' stupid, so all the parents show up at her classroom, very mad.
17. Twelve Angry People
Eric is part of a jury and he explains to the rest of the jury that the defendant is guilty. Deena comes over and is still mad at Simon for giving her a hickey. Ruthie cut her friend Sarah's hair, so she has to stay in her room to think about what she did and thinks about cutting her own hair until she realizes that what she did is wrong. Mary gives Lucy a black eye, so to pay her back she tells Lucy that she called Andrew for her and that he has a girlfriend , even though she didn't, so Lucy tells Mary that she called Robbie for her, even though she didn't. Matt uses Eric's office to do a paper, and instead of doing his paper, he plays minister.
18. Hoop Dreams
Mary has a dream that she's playing with the Lakers, and thinks it's going to come true when Coach Cleary tells her he wants to work out with her after school, but he really wants her to help train some girls for the Special Olympics. When Mary finds out that one of the girls has a father who is a scout for the pros, she really thinks her dream is coming true. Eric, Annie, and Mary have a meeting with him, and Mary learns she's not going to play for the pros. Eric takes Simon out of school in the middle of the day to explain to him that being a minister is fun after Simon says he doesn't want to be one. Annie overhears Lucy say that she doesn't want to be "Just Mom" so Annie thinks she's nothing but a mother. Ruthie wants to be the Queen of England until she finds out how much work it is. Matt wants to move to New York but after talking to people and thinking it out he decides not to, and he signs up to work as an orderly.
19. Talk To Me
Lisa Lunby talks to Eric and asks him to help her and her mom deal with "The Incident" that only Mary knows,and not even her own brothers. "The Incident" is that her mother's boyfriend molested her. Hank tells Matt that he wants to talk to him, Matt tells Julie, and Julie kicks Hank out, so he comes to stay with Matt and John. Hank tells Julie and Matt that he's Jewish. Simon's funny friend Luke comes over. Ruthie's friend Mary Anne, who smells like meat because she lives across the street from a meat store, comes over. Mary goes Switzerland, meaning she's completely neutral.
20. Liar Liar
The Camdens are going to be featured in the family section of the newspaper. When the reporter talks to Mary, she tells him about how she met Robbie, Lucy tells him about about all of her boyfriends, Simon tells him about giving Deena a hickey, and Ruthie tells him about how Julie used to be an alcoholic. One of Matt's co-workers follows him around and tries to get him in trouble. John gets mad at some guy who copys speeches from famous black people. Ruthie's friend Chrissy steals her story to tell in library class. When Eric sees the article and pictures they're going to put in the paper, he tells them not to, but they put them in anyway, and Eric realizes his family is not perfect.
21. Love Stinks (Part 1)
Robbie shows up in church to apologize to Mary and they get back together. Mary tells her parents that she's not going to college in the fall. Lucy has a crush on Robbie's step- brother, Ronald. Andrew is trying to convince Lucy that they're perfect for each other. Deena tells Simon that she wants to see other people. Ruthie agrees to let Bert, a boy who likes her, be her boyfriend as long as he gives her stuff. Ruthie breaks up with him after he tells the whole class that she loves him. Shana is back in Glen Oak for the summer. Heather tells Matt that she loves him. Matt goes to Heather's house to tell her that he loves her too, but Heather says before they can have a relationship, he has to break up with Shana. Brett, one of Shana's roommates, follows her to Glen Oak because he loves her. Eric and Annie tell Mary that in the fall if she wants to still live there, she either has to go to college or pay rent, so she makes arrangements to move in with Robbie.
22. Love Stinks (Part 2)
Eric refuses to let Mary move in with Robbie, but Annie says that if they play along, she'll realize that she doesn't really want to move in with Robbie. But things get worse when Mary tells her parents that her and Robbie are getting married, and once again, Eric refuses to let that happen. Annie tells Eric that Mary is starting to crack, and soon she will realize she doesn't want to marry him. Simon finds out that Deena doesn't really want to see other people. She only said that because she's moving away. Eric goes to her house and finds out that her parents are getting divorced. Matt and Shana break up because they both grew apart from each other and are now in love with other people. Ruthie apologizes to Bert and they decide to be friends. Lucy goes to the Pool Hall with Ronald, and realizes she wants to be with Andrew. Eric goes to Robbie's house to explain to him that neither him or Mary are ready for marriage. Mary talks to her mother and does some thinking and finally cracks. She tells Robbie that she doesn't want to move in with him or marry him because she needs to figure herself out before she figures them out, meaning she might go to college in the fall. Matt and Heather elope.
