Who was Abraham?

Of all the people in the Bible, Abraham is the person best known for his great faith in God. Abraham followed the lord's leading and moved from Ur to Canaan, where he became the father of the Hebrew nation.

But Abraham did not always worship the Lord, and his name was not always Abraham. He was born Abram, the son of Terah, a man who made idols. In those days, the people worshipped many gods, and they made statues of them. They thought these statues had supernatural powers. But Abram heard the voice of the One True God, who told him to leave the land of the idol-worshippers.

Abram worshipped God instead of bowing to the idols of his father. Because of Abram's great faith, God changed his name to Abraham, which means "father of many nations." Through Abraham's descendants, knowledge of the One True God spread throughout the world.

What is a covenant?

A covenant is a special agreement, an important promise. All through the Bible, God made covenants with His people, Like His promise to Abraham. Before Abraham ever had a child, God promised that his family would grow into a great nation. On his part, Abraham promised to worship no other god but the Lord.
