Just a few historical notes...
I was born in Liverpool, Queen County, Nova Scotia in 1957, January 9 to be exact. At a very young age, less than a year, my family moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia. With the exception of three years, I spent most of my life in Halifax until I moved to Toronto, Ontario in 1993.
My family first moved to Toronto
for one year in the early sixties where my father studied at
University of Toronto. We returned to Halifax and not long after my
family moved to Baltimore,
Maryland where my father studied at Johns
Hopkins University. My sister was born in Maryland. After
returning from Baltimore my family settled in Halifax for good.
I went to grade school in Halifax, graduating from Queen Elizabeth High School in 1975. After graduating from high school I moved to Dundee, Scotland for one year on an exchange trip. The picture to the right is me at the Halifax airport just before getting on the plane to Scotland. One of the main reasons I chose Scotland
is because of my family heritage. My last name is Gordon.
Below are pics of my family crest and tartans. The tartan in the
middle is known as Dress Gordon and on the right is traditional Gordon
Tartan. The Gordon's were once a powerful Clan, primarily do to their allegiance
to Robert the Bruce. The Clan was so powerful, and this will make my
friends laugh, that their chief was known as "the Cock of the North".
Click on the name Gordon and be taken to a Web site on the Clan
Gordon. Another good site, primarily information on an American sect of Clan
Gordon is, www.houseofgordon.com.
And just for good measure, one final Gordon site...www.tartans.com/clans/Gordon/gordon.html.
Returning from Scotland in 1976 I worked for a couple of years prior to attending Dalhousie University. I studied economics and Canadian history. My passion at university was the sport of rugby.
For four years I played for the Dalhousie Team. Despite the bruises and many hangovers, playing rugby was at university was great.
After graduating from university, I continued to live and work in Halifax. I worked briefly for the consulting firm Gardner-Pinfold and then went to work for the Government of Nova Scotia.
I moved to Toronto in May of 1993, taking a job with the Government of Ontario. I like living in Toronto but hope to move back to Nova Scotia at some point. However, I am not leaving Toronto until fulfill my life long dream of obtaining seasons ticket to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
