President’s Message

November’s meeting is the 30th anniversary for the club and also the time for our Christmas party. Here is a list of the planned events:

1. Silent auction - members are to bring in any bonsai/gardening related items and trees for auction, proceeds go towards the club. Note: any cracked or damaged pots are welcome, they make good training pots!

2. Eldon has asked some of the founding people of the club to come in for the anniversary; Alice Barker will be one of them. Eldon will bring in some memorabilia.

3. Potluck finger food and treats, everyone is asked to bring in something yummy to eat or drink (ed.’s note- we can only use the kitchen for washing up- no cooking access).

4. Jennifer and I will bring our violins and put on a quick "Twinkle" concert.

5. Poinsettias, I will talk briefly on the care and maintenance of Poinsettias as bonsai, I have a handout to distribute. As always, try to bring in a tree to display, or to get advice on.

I would like to remind everyone to return their library books, magazines and videos to the club library. I have asked everyone to think up ideas for next year’s club meetings; Eldon has already booked a month for a grafting workshop in spring.

All your trees should be in the ground for winter by now and they should be “fall pruned”. Lets hope for a short winter! That's all for now, Nigel.

Club History

Jim Campbell and his wife Mary may also attend our November meeting. Jim and Arthur Haddrick, both of the Toronto Bonsai Society, were instrumental in helping to start our society thirty years ago. Eldon says he has always been grateful for their help.

Notes of Appreciation

Folks, please take the time to thank Nigel for all his organizing, his handouts and his presentations on our behalf. It takes time and commitment. Thank-you Nigel.

Velmon and Alexander created some sample society member cards for the October meeting. Thanks folks, Nigel says they “look great.”

Upcoming events

New members please note that the society does not meet in December; our Christmas get-together on November 19 is the last meeting until January 2004.
