Brief Hints and Tips

* Tired of rust in all those little Allen head bolts around the front suspension controls?? The end plugs in black pens can be prised out of the pens, and shortened with a sharp knife before tapping into the bolts. Voila! Just like the plugs on the bigger Allen bolts but MUCH cheaper ( if you can get hold of eight pens ).

* Did you realise that the black plugs that cap  the top of the forks (you know, the big ones on the top triple clamp) are just the same diameter as most 35mm camera film canisters? This is handy if you've lost the plugs, [sometimes they get fairly loose], don't want to pay silly prices for  the genuine replacement, but don't want water collecting there and rusting out everything.
Simply get a film canister and cut through it at about 6mm above the base. Invert the resulting ultra-short canister and tap it into the top of the fork tube. The original plug has a lip that prevents most seepage - this cheapo solution doesn't, so use a liittle Silicone rubber at the edge to keep out all moisture.

* Isn't it sad that our GF's didn't come with clocks, for those times when we are running late and want to know just how fast we have to go to get there on time.......? These days water-resistant watches are amazingly cheap. I used builders adhesive to glue the back of one to a home-made fork cap (see above), and attached it to the top of my right-hand fork easily. One strap was removed, the other passes forward and down between the triple clamp and instrument pod, and is tied to the bike for added security. Now I can check the time effortlessly.
