Bust up at training

Newtown players Colm O’Brien and Richard Jones were involved in a spectacular training ground bust up on Wednesday night. The trouble started at the Brickfields training facility when Jones turned up late and smelling of oil. O’Brien reportedly berated his tall colleague for his bad attitude and lack of effort. During training O’Brien was consistently critical of Jones’s play, calling him a lanky string of misery and telling him that he was not good enough to play for a club the size of Newtown Celtic. At this point a furious Jones cracked and laid into O’Brien, calling him lazy and told him that he was nothing more than a show pony. O’Brien then grabbed Jones by the collar and told him he should watch his mouth, at which point Jones spat at him and the two had to be pulled apart by the other players. Reserve team captain Curly Quigley witnessed the incident “It was appalling. Jones was behaving like a lunatic and Colm was constantly winding him up. You would expect better from both guys, especially from our vice captain.” Club manager Sir Clive has fined both players 2 weeks wages, a total of 21 euros each, and has ordered club caterer Geraldine Barry not to serve either player any chicken after matches for 2 weeks.

This is not the first time that either player has been involved in controversy this season. O’Brien has been openly critical of his team mates in recent interviews and was sensationally left out of the squad that traveled to the pre season training camp in Borris-in-Ossary after a furious row with club PRO The Grunt. He was also photographed selling drugs children in Nenagh and is awaiting further charges.

Jones has also courted controversy this season. He was involved in a number of on-field rows with fellow star Robbie Cremin earlier in the year and was forced to travel to Portugal in order to have plastic surgery. He was recently thrown out of a posh Nenagh nightclub and last weekend he was found drunk in a ditch outside Cremin's house, mumbling about comeuppance.
