Doping Scandal Emerges

Brian Duggan a midfielder who played in Newtown's 2002 Cup Double winning side, has revealed in his autobiography that the team took injections before one of the final,
which they won. In exerts published in the highly respected sports newspaper Duggan said :

"The only time I agreed to take a doping product was the 2002 Barry Cup Final. In all the clubs I played in I saw some doping going on, except for Balliwilliam but this
was the only time I accepted. We all took a series of injections and I felt different during the game, as my physique responded differently under strain. The only player
who refused to take part was Kieran Hogan"

A former Cormackstown player, who played in the 2002 final, believes the result should be overturned :

"I am shocked and find this news disturbing. If these allegations are proved then it would be right to take the trophy away from Newtown and return it to Cormackstown. The whole thing is simply incredible."

Newtown failed to win promotion that year even though they managed to win two cup competitions. If the had one the league any doping scandals would have been identified quickly and they would have been stripped of the title. But they did not win it so it was over looked and weren't stripped of the Barry Cup.
