 Hands are very important for Jiro:

 "In using the pick, carrying heavy stuff, etc. - hands are the most useful parts of my body.  I had cut my thumb with a champagne bottle before a live.  Since then, I specially take care of my finger because I have to use them to press on the string. And my nail is not good on picking, therefore I use a pick."

... I really wonder how he can play his bass with his finger hurt!  Someone said he still had a scar there..And I don't think that he is poor at picking strings with his fingers, he doesn't use any pick in the unplugged concert!

(Maybe this has changed because the above Caramel Box #7 is outdated?)

I think the most significant thing is that he never pulls down the string!  

He will just put his finger gently on the fret, so that the sound will not be too sharp.

Hmm... I am not good at this, let's see - - - what I read from an magazine is that he uses an (inverse) angle and plays on the guitar pick-ups.

Now, for a little bit of my impressions of Jiro's bass lines. . .

I can't say a lot! (1. I know nothing of bass. -and- 2. This is not an article about the bass!)

From Indies to HEAVY GAUGE, Jiro's skill really did improve a lot - especially from PURE SOUL to Heavy Gauge. (I think...)  In the past, his bass was too loud/sharp and had no melody or it didn't fit the song.  Now, although his bass is not that loud (still *audible*¨), it has become much more supportive of the songs.  His bass line really can make an impact on Glay's songs.  I suppose, the function of a bass line is to contour the main melody and make the song more rhythmic.  Jiro can work that out!  The most outstanding thing is that the bass line is very complicated, yet it won't make the song messy!!!!!  It is beautifully written and fits perfectly with the songs.  Sometimes, I find he makes Glay's songs like polyphonic songs~  Although a lot of people say "Heavy Gauge" is not a good song, I appreciate Jiro's bass line there. (Every time I listen Heavy Gauge," I can't hear Teru's singing - only the bass... =P)

He is great~ when he was in primary 5/6, he was chosen to run in the marathon!  He can run very, very fast!!  He said he can't run that fast now (~from Caramel Box)

Is it true, Jiro?  I think you are just too modest! =)

I have never seen any musician run so much on stage!  Concerts usually last for 3+ hours, and the bass is so heavy.. and he has to play the right note!  Sugoi!

Also, he jumps a lot - and he can jump very, very high!! ~

Is it because he was a member of the basketball team when he was in secondary school? (...but he quit it after a half year...)

What about shoes?  

What kind of shoes does Jiro love?!  No doubt  - - - sneakers!!!

He has lots of them! So all of you should buy more sneakers..

*SECRET*:  Jiro's right foot is 3 cm shorter than his left leg!  He wasn't born this way.. this is due to his enthusiasm for the bass! Why?  When he started to play bass, he put his weight on his right leg because he thought it didn't seem right to put his weight on both legs (does this matter?).  Jiro always tries to do everything the best, and he practiced and practiced day and night.. then.. *his right leg became shorter than his left leg!  So great!  He sacrificed for the bass!!!!

(Since Ayu has known this, she has always put her weight on her right leg without noticing it..true!!!  How stupid.. =P)

(*Editor's Note:  If so, it may be that he stretched his left leg more, making it longer than the other...?)

Um, Ayu's information "dries up" here.. Hey, it seems that this article is a bit dull.. yep, there's too few pictures!!! (comparatively speaking) Luckily, Ayu can find a new "Tomadoi Jiro" image!!  He looks so cool and sexy here, and it seems that he has grow up a lot! Does anyone still remember that I have discussed his eyebrows in the past "Caramel Sweet" article, "Jiro's Head no teema?"  For those who still remember the styles, you may notice the shape of his eyebrows has changed again!  The curve has became more significant..   How do you like it?  Ayu likes it ..ne.. *hehehe

(I feel strange everytime I type the name "Ayu"!  This is the name of Hisashi's cat, but my favorite is Jiro.. Still, I think this is a funny name and I like the way Hisashi named his cat!)
