    | x ~ JIRO IS INTERVIEWED! ~
.Translated from What's in? Glay Issue DX. 2000 Spring:
 (A = Akira Saeki  /
      J = Jiro)

            | | | . |
            | A: | X | Is your aim of having an unplugged because
you want to let people compare each note following by each note
while you are plying the song? |
            | | | . |
            | J: | | 'It's because we want to give
ourselves pressure.  No matter if the place for the concert
is large or small, it's alright.  When the place is larger,
we will have greater pressure.  In this case, if we fail, we
will fail; but if we success, we will feel prosperous.  In
the beginning, when we planned the unplugged, we asked "Where
should we have our concert?"  The answer was "BUDOKAN!" |
            | | | . |
            | A: | | Is the pressure greater than what you have
              estimated? |
            | | | . |
            | J: | | It's getting bigger and
bigger after we started the rehearsal.  I only felt very
interesting when I was arranging the song!  Someone said to
me, "It must make people crazy!"  Then, when we
went into the process of ordering the song, we found a lot of tiny
problems.  We fixed those problems and, in the meantime, we
found we didn't have much time left. (laugh) |
            | | | . |
            | A: | | Jiro, is response to choosing the song - in
doing that, do you already have a basic idea of what song you will
              choose? |
            | | | . |
            | J: | | No.  I just choose what
I like.  Although people may prefer the songs in the singles,
I think it will be a bit boring this time because they can be
heard in concert frequently.  I chose these songs after
               "balancing."  "Friedchicken &
Beer" is the last song I had chosen.  I wanted to choose
"Love Slave" at first; however, we had played it in
acoustic before, and "Friedchicken & Beer" added
some "artistic element."  Therefore, it's better to
try some new thing.  Also, "However" was added only
a few days before the "FM 802" live in Osaka.  We
simply use an acoustic version to finish the "medium
type"song - "Beloved" - but, in the opposite,
there are a lot of changes in the "up type"songs - "Come
On!" and "Shutter Speed no teema."  I don't
have the image of acoustic in my brain, I only follow the
direction.  In "Friedchicken & Beer," I wanted
to feel that "Rock-a-Billy" type of Rock 'n' Roll, so
Nagai made the rhythm for me and I followed.  Then, all the
other members followed.  This is how we do our arranging of
              the songs. |
            | | | . |
            | A: | | There was a  Blues section added before
"Come On!"  Is this decided by all of you? |
            | | | . |
            | J: | | Yes.  Takuro played the
chord rhythm & blues, it feels good.  I added a lot of
Blues in the fake; the effect was much better , so I added it
today, but I added more this time.  (laugh) |
            | | | . |
            | A: | | Do you design the pattern when you are
choosing the song or when you are in rehearsal? |
            | | | . |
            | J: | | I decided what songs to be
chosen.  I chose "About a girl" because I like Kurt
Cobain.  This song was the opening song of the album,
              "Unplugged in New York." |
            | | | . |
            | A: | | Do you have a period of playing the guitar
and singing on your own? |
            | | | . |
            | J: | | I have tried this in the
beginning, I felt afraid now when I thought of this.  (laugh)
In Osaka, I felt very anxious.  It's much luckier now! |
            | | | . |
            | A: | | So, you choose "About a girl,"and
you produced it by yourself so that you can bring in it's own
              mood? |
            | | | . |
            | J: | | Yes.  And this song
rises to "random" very quickly.  I handed the
others to the stage director.  For lighting, P.A etcetera,
they are very essential in making the live smooth; if I don't hand
these to the professionals, it's not right.  "Shutter
Speed no teema" is the last song.  I have drawn how I
want the stage to look, and I handed the picture to the stage
              director. |
            | | | . |
            | A: | | You always draw pictures like the audience
              sitting there? |
            | | | . |
            | J: | | Yes.  I started this 2
years ago in Daidaik; however, when I asked the audience in MC:
"Is there anyone who doesn't understand the meaning of
"unplugged?" Actually, people are just copying from
others; no one stands - therefore, they don't dare to stand.
(plus:  he told those who understand to stand) For
those who understand unplugged... those who come with this
attitude, no doubt they should stand!  So, I said at the end:
"Stand if you want to, sit if you want to continue to
sit"  Then, everyone stood up, one after another.  I
believed that they had waited to stand for a long time. |
            | | | . |
            | | | (to be continued..) | .
OK!  Let's stop here (review hasn't started yet... =P)
I promise I will continue this next
      time!.
