Austin City Limits

October 1998

Martina at the beginning of the show, before she sang "Wrong Again":

"Well, I have to tell you something. I've been watching this show for so long and this is my first visit to Austin City Limits and I am so thrilled to be here tonight. It's a real honor for all of us, I'll tell you. You know, one of the things that I try to do with my music when I listen for songs for my albums is I try to find songs that talk about real life. And this next song is no exception. It's a song about hope, it's called 'Wrong again.'"

Martina about "Valentine":

"Well you know, it's funny as life goes on, sometimes songs will take on a whole different meaning. And when I recorded this next song, I was definitely just thinking of a very traditional love song and... I had... I have two little girls. I have a little girl that's three and a half, named Delaney and I have a little girl that's almost seven months old named Emma. So I had Emma earlier this year and it was about a month and a half after I had her. I was at home in Nashville, in my living room and this song came on the radio. And it occured to me that... I mean as I listened to it, I really heard the words in a whole new light because not only is it a love song in a traditional sense, but as many parent out there I'm sure will identify with, it alkso speaks to me about the way I feel about my children."

Martina before "A Broken Wing":

"You know, I feel like songs sometimes fall into your life like little gifts. I listen to so many songs for each album from all the songwriters around the country and especially the songwriters back in Nashville and... Probably two or three thousand songs I listen to for each album. And so the good ones are hard to find. And I feel like this song was sent to me for a reason. I certainly feel blessed that I get to sing it every night, because I feel like it talks about the triumph of the human spirit."
