Martina McBride's "Greatest Hits" Debuts At Number One
LAUNCH Yahoo!, September 28, 2001
Martina McBride's Greatest Hits album debuted at Number One on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and Number Five on the Billboard 200 chart this week. McBride's chart-topping collection scanned more than 102,000 units and makes her only the fourth artist in 2001 to sell more than 100,000 albums in their first week of release.
After a busy week that included a guest appearance on CNN's Larry King Live, performing the "Star-Spangled Banner" at the Monday Night Football game in Green Bay, Wisconsin and getting a standing ovation for her performance of "America The Beautiful" on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, McBride will focus her attention on Indiana this weekend, where she is set to perform at 14th Farm Aid concert. McBride talked with LAUNCH about her participation in this year's Farm Aid: " I'm a farmer's daughter, I grew up on a farm. So, I fully understand the challenges that farmers face. So to be able to go and lend my voice to that cause, that really strikes close to home for me."
McBride will also act as a host for the CMT telecast. This year's Farm Aid benefit will be dedicated as a "Concert For America" and will assist the Farmers' Markets destroyed in the World Trade Center attacks.
