Jamboree In The Hills
Summer 1998
Quotes of Martina talking to the audience:
Martina about "Wrong Again":
"Well, I'm so happy to be here today at Jamboree In The Hills. This is one of the most looked forward to events that we... that we play. And we're very happy to be here. And you all look like you're having a good time today. Well, you know, one of the things that I love about country music is... I feel like country music talks about real life, you know... Because we all do the same things. How many of you all, on a hot summer night turn your pillow over to find the cool side? Anybody do that? Of course. Well how about when you go to get a slice of bread out the local bread (????) and you go back two or three before you pick one up. I don't know why we do what we do. I always try to find songs that talk about real life and we have a new album out right now called Evolution. It's been out for a little while. And I'd like to play one of my favorite songs out of it. This is gonna be our next single after "Happy Girl". It's a song about hope, it's called "Wrong Again".
Martina about "Some Say I'm Running"
"You know, there's a song on this new album that I really love and I don't know if it's ever gonna be a single or not, but I really love what it says. You know, it's really easy... It seems like everybody always has the advice for you, you know, and it's really easy to follow somebody else's advice. They always think they know what's best for you. But it's really hard to follow your heart sometimes. And just tuning everybody out and listen to what's inside your heart. And the woman in this song does just that."
Martina about "Valentine":
"Last year I had a chance to do a song that I think is one of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard. And a lot of people have told me since this that they've had this played at their wedding or they're gonna have it played at their wedding or this is their special song, so now is the time to snuggle up to the one you're with, even though it's hot."
Martina during "My Baby Loves Me", when she was asking the audience to sing for her:
"How are you all feeling? Are you feeling good? Well, I'm feeling good! Now, as you may have noticed, what we've got goin' on is very much an audience participation kind of show. And now we have arrived to the moment you have all been anxiously waiting for since I first entered the stage... No, the band is not going to strip for you... Sorry... We have come to the singing part. Do you all feel like singing for me? Well I wanna tell you that standing up here on the stage and hearing your songs sung back to you by thousands and thousands of people is pretty much one of the coolest feelings around. So if you'll all sing real loud for me, I'll take that (...) in my heart from Jamboree In The Hills. Can you do that?"
Martina about "A Broken Wing":
"Sometimes songs fall into your life like little gifts and this next song, I feel really blessed that I get to sing this song every night, hopefully for the rest of my life. I think it talks about the triumph of the human spirit."
