Martina McBride Chose Current Single For Her Husband

Martina McBride and her husband John McBride celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary today (May 15). The couple is not actually clear on who popped the question first. Martina says that John asked her, while John maintains that she actually popped the question.

Martina tells LAUNCH her version of the story about how she and John got engaged. "You know, we were parking, I guess. We were just looking at the moon and the stars. He pursued me relentlessly. And he kept talking about getting married, and I was like, 'I've only known you like, a couple of months. What are you, crazy?' But I knew that he was really good for me, and I knew that I was in love, and so we were out there and I looked up at the moon, and he said, 'Well, we better go.' And I said, 'Isn't there something you want to ask me?' So he did. He asked me to marry him and I said, 'Yes."

Incidentally, the first person that Martina and John shared the happy news with was a police officer. It seems the officer checked on them to make sure everything was OK.

Martina's latest single, "There You Are," can be found on her current album, Emotion, as well as the soundtrack to the Ashley Judd/Natalie Portman film, Where The Heart Is. She says that when she first heard the song, it struck her on a very personal level -- it reminds her of her husband, as she tells LAUNCH. "Just that constant support. There is a line in it that says, 'Every time I take a breath and when I forget to breathe you're watching over me.' I feel that way sometimes. I feel like my life is so harried and so frantic and so busy, and he kind of helps me keep perspective and helps me through a lot of things, so he is very supportive. It just reminds me of him."
