Martina McBride & Keith Urban Concert Review

I included only Martina part of the article.

Martina McBride and Keith Urban performed at the Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa on August 10, 2000.

Martina came out around 8:15 pm. The sun had gone down and the sky was pretty much dark by this time.

The stage had a set of steps near the back and Martina came out from the center of the stairs, sort of like an alien space ship opening up and the light at her back. She opened with a song off her latest album, Emotion, singing "It's My Time."

Martina asked us if it was just her, or did anyone else have a bad hair day? She went on to say how lucky she had been in being able to record a duet with Bob Segar, and with Clint Black. She said she got to tour on the George Strait Country Festival, and she didn't steal any animals. Then she remarked how she got to sing at the White House, and made sure to mention that she was 8 1/2 months pregnant at the time. These last two comments got some chuckles from the audience.

Most of the songs, as you can see below, were songs she's recorded. She did a wonderful rendition of what she referred to as her favorite song ever, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." She sang "I Can See Clearly," which was originally recorded in the 70s by Johnny Nash, and "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman," again from the 70s by Carole King, and her encore song "Still The One" from Orleans, again from the 70s.

One moment I'll never forget was the way Martina started "Independence Day." She sang the chorus slow and acapella before breaking out into the actual song with the band. Amazing!

During her last song, "Still The One" Martina did something I think is really neat. She took a Polaroid camera and snapped some pictures and threw them out into the audience. She took pictures of her band, of the audience, and the last one of herself at arms length. This last one came within 3 feet of me, and the girl 2 people to my right got it. I was able to see the photo when it fully developed and it was a GREAT shot! I thought for sure it would be overexposed since it was taken at arms length, but it wasn't. Martina looked wonderful in the pic.

Definitely make sure to see Martina when she comes your way. She recently announced that she won't be playing any more dates during the week as her oldest daughter Delaney is going to be starting 1st grade, and she wants to spend more time with her. What a mom!!! I see why she is nominated for the CMA Female Vocalist, and why she won last year. The woman is a bundle of talent. Such a little package, and such a big voice.
