Martina McBride Prepares For NBA All-Star Game
LAUNCH Yahoo!, February 11, 2000
As one of today's top female country artists, Martina McBride has been asked to perform at all kinds of sporting events. This weekend, McBride will join LL Cool J, Mary J. Blige, 98 Degrees, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd in performing during the halftime of the NBA All-Star Game.
LAUNCH spoke with McBride about this Sunday's (Feb. 13) event. "We're performing during the halftime show," she said. "We're doing a minute-and-10 seconds of a song on the album called 'It's My Time,' and I got to choose the song, and I went in and did the edit myself so at least I have, you know, control over the mix and the song and the way it's presented. Now, when I get there and they surround me with 40 dancers, that could be a little awkward. You never know how it's gonna play out."
Even though McBride's not quite sure what to expect, the singer said she finds excitement in the uncertainty. "It's fun, you know? It's a little bit of a challenge. It kind of shakes things up a little bit. We go out and do shows and it's very much...we know what we're doing and know what to expect, and this kind of makes it interesting."
The NBA All-Star Game will air this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT on NBC.
