CMT, November 10, 2001
Host: Backstage at the Grand Ole Opry, where actually (...), I've run into Martina McBride. And this is one of those things that you just never know, because I didn't know Emma was gonna be with us tonight.
Martina: Yeah... Hanging at the Opry tonight.
Host (to Emma): Hi, are you gonna say hello?
Emma: Hi.
Host: Hi. What a wonderful performance Martina.
Martina: Thank you very much.
Host: It's great having you here at the Opry. And I've sen you so much lately in a cheritable way. You've helped so many people lately. You always have, but especially since the September the 11th attacks, you have really like (...) and become the Mrs. America for country music.
Martina: Well I think everybody, you know, kind of wonderfs, sit at home and wonders what they can do to help and we all feel compelled and wanna do something and...
Emma: We have dog.
Host: You do?
Martina (laughs): We have a dog.
Host: Oh.
Martina: And you know, this career is such a, such a...
Emma: Her name is Belle.
Martina: ... a way for me to be able to, you know, help so many people. Really (...) It's really easy for me to go out there and sing and do what I do and in return to be able to help. I feel like it;s my responsibility and my privilege.
Host: Well you do it wonderfully.
Martina: Oh thanks.
Host: You know (...), I should mention to (...) your new album...
Emma tries to say something.
Martina: Not now honey.
Host: ... new album which is a Greatest Hits album (...) already gone gold and you donated money from that.
Martina: Yeah, we donated 50.000 dollars from the sales of that album to the Red Cross.
Host: That's great.
Martina: So we're really proud of that.
Host: And I know it has to be the more important as a parent, right?
Martina: Definitely.
Host: (...) because you become more... not only role model for your childresn, but for the country, you know. (the host tirns to Emma): Are you having fun?
Emma: Yeah.
Host: Yeah, well that's good.
Emma tries to say something again, but I don't really think you're albe to tell what she is saying... LOL
Martina (trying to explain): The dog's name is Belle. We just got a new dog named Belle.
Host: Oh. Well, you know what...
Emma: We didn't name her Belle (?????)
Host: OK.
Martina: We should put a mike on you, Emma.
Host: Yeah, we should. Martina, let's talk a little bit about Grand Ole Opry and when you were inducted in 1995 by Loretta Lynn.
Martina: That's right.
Host: Tell us something about it.
Emma plays with Martina's mike.
Martina (to Emma): That's my microphone. Well, it was amazing. I mean just to be inducted into Grand Ole Opry is such an honor, but then to have Loretta Lynn, who is one of my personal heros...
Emma: Can I talk.. Can I talk to it? (referring to the mike)
Martina: (...) forever. (to Emma) Not now. And be the one to induct me was such a... That's something I'll never forget. You know, amazing.
Host: I was talking to Trace Adkins a little earlier and I asked him the same question. Of all the people that have performed at the Opry, and he has seen a lot of people, like you, who would you like to have to have sing?
Martina: Patsy Cline.
Host: Oh, that was a quick answer.
Martina: Yeah. Absolutely. That's the one person...
Emma (playing with Martina's mike): Can I talk to it? Can I talk...
Martina (to Emma): In a minute, OK? That's the one person that I really wish I could have met and hang out with and I know it would've just been so fun.
Host (to Emma): Do you like to listen to your mommy sing?
Emma: Yeah.
Host: Yeah? What's your favorite song that your mommy does?
Emma: (...) rainbow.
Host: What did she say?
Martina: What is it? Rainbow? "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".
Host: "Somewhere Over The Rainbow?"
Emma: Yeah, this is my favorite song.
Martina: That's her favorite song. I'd sing that to her to go to sleep sometimes. I'd sing her to sleep.
Host: How old are you, Emma? (Emma shows three fingers) Three years old. Wow! Well we're gonna have to wrap things up and go back to....
Man's voice: No, no. No, no, no.
Host: We're gonna keep going? OK.
Martina (laughs): We're not wrapping up at all.
Host: We still have plenty of time to talk. (They both laugh) Well tell me abour home life. When you do finally get a chance to spend some time at home and I know you 're out on the road a lot.
Martina: Well actually now we're not so much. We have been lately, but Delaney is in the first grade so we've been home, kind of seem to start to wind down and be home every day. And it's just great. I mean we just... You know, it's great to get into some kind of routine and... And I have my hands ful.
Host: I can tell. (Martina laughs and the host turns to Emma) You're very good child I'm sure.
Emma: Yeah. Can I talk to it now?
Martina: I don't think you can talk in. What are you gonna say?
Host: She's talking in to the microphone.
Emma says something.
Martina: Say 'hi' to everybody.
Host: Say 'hi'. (the host turns to Martina) Well we all saw your performance at CMAs this week as well. I know it's been a busy week. Was it different to perform at the CMAs this year that it has been in the other years with everything that's been going on and all the security?
Martina: There was a lot more security...
Emma (playing with the mike again): I wanna talk to this....
Martina: Honey, you know what, would you go and stand over there for a second while I finish this? (Emma doesn't seem to listen and tries to say something) Sssshhh, ssshhh... Disciplining your child on national television.
Host (laughs): (...) we all had that chance.
Martina: It was... There was more security, but the thing was I just felt like, you know, we were all there to pull together and kind of offer some comfort to the nation.I think that's what it felt like for me and for everybody else that was there.
Host: They're tee\lling me now we'll be going back to the stage.
Martina: OK.
Host: Martina, thank you.
Martina: You bet.
Host: We're gonna get to the stage now.
