The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
NBC, Summer 2000
Jay:
Hi Martina! Nice to see you! Very nice! Have a seat. Welcome back!
Martina:
Thank you.
Jay:
(...) when you guys come to show, you always bring the kids...
Martina:
Mhm.
Jay:
(...) kind of day care back here. Now... I hope you don't mind... When you were rehearsing today, your daughter was watching you. How old is she? Two?
Martina:
She's just a... She's about two years and four months.
Jay:
Two years old. Well, I hope you don't mind this but we (...) recorded this. And she was... she was singing. Can we... can I show that? Would you mind? Do you mind if I show it? Well, here's your daughter, take a look.
They show a clip of little Emma singing.
Jay:
There you go, that's pretty good.
Martina:
Oh...
Jay:
That's Emma?
Martina:
That's Emma. That's her first time singing with the band.
Jay:
Wow! Well, she's very cute. That's really good.
Martina:
Thanks.
Jay:
And you still got the bus thing? You're still on the bus?
Martina:
We're on the bus. Actually something funny happened a while back... I got left... My bus left me. We were doing a radio...
Jay:
(...)
Martina:
Well, we were doing this... Like we were going and visit radio stations...
Jay:
Right, right...
Martina:
Had to do a morning show, get up at 5 am. So John had gone, he... I... I went in a hotel and slept so I can get ready in the hotel. And he didn't wanna get up at 5 and (...) up to the bus. He wanted to get a good night sleep, (...), we've been married for twelve years... So he slept on the bus. Well, I wake up and I get ready and I walk... I walked out and looked out - no bus... Anywhere... So I went to the nearest payphone and I called John on his cellphone and said... He said 'Hello', he was just asleep. I said 'Where are you?'. He said 'We're going down the road...' (Martina imitates John looking around) 'Where are you?' And I said 'I'm at the hotel'. So they had to turn around and come back to get me.
Jay:
Sounds like a one (...) arrangement.
Martina:
Yeah...
Jay:
You know, what a good deal, he got to sleep on the bus. Yeah... And he gets to do the dishes. What a lucky guy.
Martina (laughs):
Oh....
Jay:
Martina McBride! Emotion is the new CD. How great, thank you, Martina.
