Unidentified Interview

NCN, March 1996

Martina McBride is one of country's biggest and busiest stars. She spends her days on a bus, her nights on a stage and the rest of the time holding interviews or signing autographs. So you would think the last thing she would have time for is taking care of a baby. Well, that isn't the way Martina sees things. She describes her daughter Delaney to be an anitodote for a career obsession.

"It force me to take time to... off, to just be with her and be at home and I've realized that I need that really badly cause what that does is (...) makes me to go out and do better the next time I go out. So, I have my (...) excuse now for needing time off."

"Our relationship had reached a level with... it just, it felt natural to carry it on to the next step, which is havin' a family. And then... we both wanted a baby so we decided to just go for it and figured everything else would just fall in the place around it."

"Two days after I found out I was pregnant, we got off of the Brooks & Dunn tour so the 'Oh... Well... Gosh...', you know and... This is... I don't know how this is gonna work And it worked, bacause I just went out and worked. I mean I just said 'Well, I just work until I can't work anymore' and we toured with Brooks & Dunn till.... during the whole tour and tour with them until two and a half weeks before I had her."

At 15 months, Delaney McBride has done more travelling than most people do in a lifetime.

"She's been doing this since she was two months old so she's, you know, we're all used to it and she loves it. She loves travelling. She actually gets really excited when we're going to trip."

"I probably get to see her more than, you know, if I worked a regular job so I feel very lucky, too, cause I am the luckiest woman in the world. I have the career that I love and I get to take my child with me, be with her almost every second of the day. So I'm very blessed."

A successful career, a loving husband, a beautiful daughter, who said you can't have it all? NCN artist of the month Martina McBride.
