The Hikes
Full Day Rainforest Hike
This is the famous waterfall and rainforest hike in Kipahulu,
located at "The Seven Sacred Pools". We climb along-side
Oheo gulch and Pipiwai stream, replete with waterfalls of all sizes. We may
have an oppurtunity to swim in emerald pools, canopied by
vines and banyan trees, reminiscent of an "Indiana Jones"
movie. We'll share lunch and snacks near the largest of the
easily accesible waterfalls on Maui, the 375 foot cataract
named "Waimoku Falls".

Half Day Rainforest Hike
This hike takes us into the rainforest along the infamous Hana Hiway. Here we find places where tropical fruit grows wild, where rain falls nearly every day of the year, and where the rainforest and the waterfalls capture Maui's
unique magic. Swimming may be possible at pools that are seldom
found by locals or tourists. You may treasure this as the best time had on your
Maui holiday.

Mountain Ridge Hike
This hike was featured in an article in the National Geographic Society's
"Traveller Magazine", August 1996. We wind across a razor ridge with
steep drops into Waihe`e and Makamaka`ole on both sides of the trail.
This hike proves unique for low-elevation modern Hawaii. Here we
share in the rare opportunity to see many uncommon native plants,
and perhaps birdwatch for some peerless Hawaiian forest avifauna.
This ridge hike makes for a splendid workout.....the "Maui Stair-Master".

Volcano Hikes into Haleakala Crater
Several versions of Crater hikes are offered here, ranging from short
birdwatching expeditions, to medium length moonlight and star-gazing
hikes, all the way to an 18 mile hike from the summit to sea-level.
I recommend the 4 mile "sampler" for sightseeing, or the 12 mile
trek amidst the moonscape of Haleakala Crater floor to really workout.
I tailor-make these hikes to suit your abilities and needs. This is
one of my most favorite spots in the world to set out on a trek.
Views are spectacular. The hikes are at high-altitude, making
even a simple distance much more difficult. Some of the memories
of these hikes may include: a walk through a lava tube (cave), sightings
of the Hawaii State bird (the Nene goose), or the heavenly experience
of the Spectre de Broken ("The Glory"). Most folks choose the 4 or
12 mile hikes, as they offer the best chance to see more of Haleakala.
6-12 Hours, 2,4,8,12,18 Miles Strenuous for Most, $ask$/person depending on choice of hike.

Snorkeling, Kayaking, and Coastal Hikes
A variety of choice opportunities present themselves hiking,
kayaking, and snorkeling along Maui's leeward shores. Hikes might
pass over the most recent lava flow on Maui, or through ancient
fishing villages or along pre-historic trails. A dream-world
presents itself: crystal clear water to snorkel, calm water to
kayak and whale-watch, or hiking amid the ghostly ruins of the ancient Hawaiians.
5-10 Hours, 2,4, or 6 Miles Moderate to Strenuous, $ask$/person depending on choice of activity.

Poli Poli Springs Mountain Hikes
Again the hikes in PoliPoli Springs Cloud Forest may be tailored
to your desires and abilities. All the hikes are above 5000' ASL,
and range from short birdwatching treks of only a few miles, to
lengthy all-day expeditions over the western flank of Haleakala.
Featured on these trails: bird-watching, spelunking (caving),
views across central Maui, many Hawaiian native plants, and generally
the best weather year-long. Trail conditions usually remain good
to excellent through the year too, as there is very little rainfall
here in the cloud forest.
5-12 Hours, 2,4,5,10, or 15 Miles Easy to Strenuous, $ask$/person depending on choice of hike.
