Vacation at Georgian Manor Resort - 2004

Our 1-week RCI vacation was at Georgian Manor Resort, in Collingwood, Ontario from May-June 4, 2004. We had a 1-bedroom suite, with a living-dining room and full kitchen. We had an enjoyable time touring around, taking photos of a fabulous sunset at the bayside, picnic at Georgian Bay and others.

At Collingwood town, we browsed and shopped at the Blue Mountain Pottery. This manufactures a unique and collectible pottery from Georgian Bay clay and its sales outlet provides free free daily tours to watch craftsmen at work. Latest visit to their website, however, informs that they closed shop December, 2004.

And there is the Candy Factory, which offers wholesale and retail candy, frozen fruit yogourt and hard ice cream (seasonally), chocolate, and gift items - a spot for the sweets-addicted tooth.

At Sunset Point, we braved the cold at the Collingwood harbor to watch the sun set over the Southern Georgian Bay. This is the town's traditional beauty spot and picnic area. In summer, (which was not when we were there), water sports such as kayaking and wind surfing are practiced just off shore but there is no swimming allowed at present due to the bay's current low water levels. In all seasons, the park is popular for walking dogs or simply watching its famous spectacular sunsets.

Being just a few minutes away from Georgian Manor, we went driving through The Villages of the Blue Mountains - a village complex, home to a number of shops, bars and restaurants. We passed by the Scenic Caves, but did not stop there as we had already toured this the previous year.

And on a not so cold day, we stopped at Georgian Bay to enjoy the view of its pristine waters. Georgian Bay is said to be the World's Longest Freshwater Beach, and is part of the Georgian Triangle which includes the Blue Mountains and the Niagara Escarpment.

That Sunday, we attended the 11a.m. mass at Collingwood's St Mary's Roman Catholic Church.

To fill up our week's stay at the resort, we drove to Meaford town.We stopped to relax and had lunch at the Harbour. Meaford's twin Harbours provide seasonal, transient and recreational boating accomodations. We strolled along Main Street to its Museum. Bayfield Street features two parks - Raper's Park and McCarroll Park which has a playground, a wading pool, a view of the beach. Here is another view of the beach .

One other place we went to was Creemore, a secret country hideaway they call. We visited this historic village which has a microbrewery, Creemore Springs Brewery on its main street, taking in a tour inside, tasting their fresh beer.

Other sights we toured were the Inglis Falls, one of 3 waterfalls surrounding Owen Sound, which has a viewing platform. We also stopped at the Jones falls.

Being in the area of Grey County,a 4-season destination south of Owen Sound and Georgian Bay, we drove to the Visitor Centre which has a permanent Exhibit Hall at Grey Roots. This displays galleries and museums of the County's natural heritage.
