One weekend in Nov. 1999, Eric drove us to Ottawa. I remember there was still no
snow even if the temperature was at its coldest at below 10C. During day, the warmest
would be at 16-18C.
We started driving early, around 6:00am or so, and took our breakfast when we got
hungry after 2 hours, at a gasoline station along the way. We reached the city of
Ottawa in 4 hours, but we had to go past it since we booked our overnight stay at
Bearbrook Farm which was farther away yet - some 20-30 minutes away I think.
When we found the place, we left some of our things after checking in. Our itinerary
for the day was to just go around and see as much of the city before nightfall. Carpark was
quite a few blocks from the malls and it was "uphill" walk to the Parliament Hill and
the Museum. We took video shots mostly, and not much of camera photos.
Before going back to Bearbrook Farm, we ate an early dinner and brought along some
snack stuff. The Farm had an indoor swimming pool but not heated. Only the jacuzzi pool
was. I took a quick swim at the pool, but the jacuzzi was too hot for me. Not for the
kids - the water was just fine for them, and what fun they had!
Breakfast at the Farm was not the Continental-type one gets at most wayside motels.
For me, it was quite a heavy one - fruits, pastries, eggs, franks, etc.I can't remember
everything, but I know we had a lot to eat! Most of the morning before check-out time at
12noon was spent walking around the farm. The kids had great fun looking and feeding the
animals. The Farm has a gift shop and a meat shop and in each I couldn't resist
buying some stuff.
Before we went back through the city again, we spent more than an hour inside the
National Aviation Museum. It was fascinating to look at all the old airplanes and even
the girls enjoyed it. We drove around the city a little bit, before going on straight
home. Everyone else was just too tired to stop to eat along the way.
