Vacation in Vermont - 2007

This year, only Daddy and I traveled abroad to Canada to Eric’s home in Orangeville. We left together June 26, just in time for us to vacation at the RCI timeshare exchange I got which was booked for July 13-20, the Grand Summit Resort just at the foot of Mt. Snow at West Dover.

We rented a car which seated us 5 only (Jenny not being able to get a vacation this time), and drove all the way to West Dover. It should have taken us about 8-1/2 hours according to mapquest, but we passed Fatima Shrine at noontime and stopped for lunch at Buffalo, so by the time we reached West Dover, it was almost 8:30pm, Friday. It being still summer, it was not yet dark by then.

We had the whole of Saturday to drive around nearby towns of Jamaica and Manchester, bought groceries and had lunch out. Later in the afternoon, we just went walking around the resort. On Sunday a.m., we attended mass at Our Lady of Fatima church at Wilmington. Do and Sol joined us from New York Sunday pm, who did not find any problems locating the resort since they had a GPS in their car. But they were still too tired from their drive, so only Kyra and I tried swimming at the pool which was quite nice and warm and with a Jacuzzi adjoining it.

The next morning, we decided to find the nearest beach along Atlantic ocean, and we reached Hampton Beach at New Hampshire.

There is a State Reservation Park located along the beach of North Atlantic ocean, where we could park and cook barbecue while the girls, with Do and Sol went to the beach. I tried the water too, which was very cold (though the sun was very hot), but after a while it was not so bad and enjoyed splashing against the waves with them.

The rest of the week were spent hiking up Mt. Snow, (a quarter or less of the entire slope at best), driving to nearby towns (Manchester with its designer outlets,
Bennington bridges and the Battle Monument), and riding the chairlift to reach the top of Mt. Snow (no snow of course, it being summer).

Sometimes it rained a little (what a summer weather!), and in our last day, we braved the rain ( a slight drizzle, really), and rented 2 canoes to go to Lake Whitingham, a few minutes south of Wilmington, some less than 10 minutes down from the resort, spent the entire morning into early afternoon there and cooked barbecue.

When we checked out of the hotel on the 7th day, only Daddy and Eric drove back to Canada, while me and the girls went back with Do and Sol in their van to New York. We stayed 3 nights there, where the girls on their 1st trip, walked around Times Square, into the Empire State Building and ground zero, and did a cruise to Liberty and Staten Islands. Going back to Canada, we took the Amtrak train up to Toronto. For them I think, it was an enjoyable and memorable summer.
