This is a record of Kim's dreams as she tells me about them. The thing is about her dreams, she remembers so much detail. I probably won't be able to relay the intensity of detail she tells me, but I'll try.
This morning I had a dream that I was at a concert. I think it was REO Speedwagon. While I was waiting for them to come on stage, I was reading the newspaper. I was with some friends and we decided to change seats. I noticed that I left my newspaper at the old seats. Some people were reading it. I walked over to them and told them that it was my paper and I wanted it back. They were Hispanic and didn't understand me. I was thinking about saying that I wanted it in Spanish. I decided that I only wanted two sections because there were only two parts that I hadn't read. The people clearly didn't want to return my paper, so I became insistent. One guy stood up and poked a revolver into my ribs telling me that they were keeping my paper. I tried to explain that I only wanted two sections, but it seemed less important to me now. The guy set the gun down on the seat (it was a metal stadium bench seat) and I picked it up. It was missing the handle. It seemed old and crappy, but I was sure it could still do harm. I left with it quickly. When I returned to my friends and James, I told them what happened and showed them the gun. Then I felt a jingle in my pocket. I realized that one of the Hispanic guy's keys had fallen into my pocket when I was over at their seats. I quickly walked over to a big trash can that was nearly full and threw the keys into a soda cup. I thought "that'll teach them." Then I returned to my seat. I knew the trash can would be emptied soon and the guys would never find their keys and maybe wouldn't be able to get home, get into their house, etc. I was glad to be mean to them since they didn't return my newspaper. I started to wonder if James had put his keys in my pocket. I tried to find my purse to make sure his keys were in there, but I woke up. I made myself go back to sleep and see his keys in my purse.
Reality: Nope
I had a dream that Nina and I had to tutor a kid (not sure what the subject was). We went to his house, which was in Arlington. It was night time. He was about 8 years old and had an older sister at home. We thought she was a pest. We had a card table set up outside the house to tutor him. His sister kept coming around to check on us and finally she went inside to watch tv. It seemed that they had no parents. Nina told me to go inside and get the kid a drink she had made from the refrigerator. The fridge was just inside the house on the left. I opened the door and there were 2 plastic glasses in there with identical-looking beverages. I brought one outside. Nina told me it was scotch and soda and it would be good for the kid to drink before studying. As we were sitting at the table, I noticed some holes in the house. I asked the kid about them. He told me that he shot the side of the house to make the neighbors think he was shooting at them because he hates them. Just after saying that, the police arrived to check on the shooting noise, which someone had reported. There was an officer who seemed to be in charge and another one accompanying him. The officer in charge left his weapon near the end of the driveway with something else (I can't remember what). The weapon was a grenade launcher. They approached us to ask us about the shooting. When they got near us, I asked the one in charge "why are you leaving your weapon unattended?" He seemed to be really charmed by me because I asked him that. So he said to me, "do you have an idiot?" Somehow I knew that he meant a boyfriend. I said no. (I said no because I have a husband and he's not an idiot.) He then asked if I had a jerk. I said no again. Then I looked to my left and saw James drive by in the Durango looking for a parking spot to join us. Immediately after, I looked to the sky and saw a United Airlines plane overhead and it was pointed straight down. I yelled to everyone to look. We all watched and heard the plane crash a few miles away. (We were on higher ground, so it was easy to see what was happening.) Everyone started running away from the direction of the crash, except me. I stood there and watched. Fire started coming toward me, so I dove to the ground, looking for something wet to put over my nose and mouth, while yelling for James to help me. I realized that the plane had crashed into the National Guard Readiness Training Center near George Mason Drive and Route 50. I woke up - it was 4:30 and I was panicked because it was all so real and it was the one month anniversary of the WTC and Pentagon attacks.
Reality: Nope
This morning I dreamt that Nina and I were out in a field. There were a group of people there. They were in 3 lines. Two lines of women with a line of men in the middle. One woman and one man would hold hands and dance down the lane created by their lines until they reached the end. Then the man would take the hand of the woman next in the other line and walk with her to the back of the same line. We watched this routine repeated and repeated. It was like a game or something that people did at a wedding reception. It seemed like they were having fun, but we didn't get involved. We started to walk away. As we were walking through the field, a limousine pulled up and the Queen Mum and her butler got out and were walking toward us rapidly holding hands (I think he was assisting her walking). Nina and I quickly dove to the ground and they passed over us. We were trying to not be in their way. Shortly after they passed us, the Queen Mum tripped and fell. Queen Elizabeth ran over to help her up and take her to her seat. I noticed then that we were in the back yard of a beautiful colonial brick mansion. There were tables set up with tablecloths on them. A magnificent dinner was being prepared for the Queen, her Mum and important guests on the lawn of the beautiful house. Then Jack Perkins appeared and gave Nina and me a hard time for tripping the Queen Mum. I could tell that from far away, it might appear that we were involved in her fall, but I assured him that we were not. Nina and I walked up to the house. It looked as though the VIPs to eat with the Queen were senior EOIR officials. On the other side of the house, more tables were set up. They were for everyone else (the rest of EOIR's employees). The tablecloths weren't as nice and the food wasn't as elegant, although I saw some fabulous-looking desserts. I realized then that I couldn't stay because I had to go to the store to buy more fruit for an appetizer I was making for my bunco group. I remembered that I bought a fruit mixture at Fresh Fields and tried to skewer it and all of the pieces of fruit were falling off the skewers. It didn't look fresh and I knew I couldn't serve it to my friends without being embarrassed. So I was going to have to go to Giant to get more fruit and start skewering all over again. I was panicked that I wouldn't have enough time. I tried to get one of the servers to fix me a plate of desserts to go. I told him that the food looked good, but the desserts looked excellent, so I just wanted desserts.
Reality: Nope
This morning I dreamed that I was hanging out with my mother-in-law in a resort-like area. It seemed like she lived there. First we had some drinks before she had to run some errands. She wanted to go to the Post Office and had to see her friends Lee and Ann. We left for the Post Office and she realized that she didn't have Lee and Ann's phone number. We went back for it. Then we were walking inside a mall-type place and we passed a store that Lee and Ann were shopping in. We went in. I had never met Lee and Ann before and I was surprised to see that they were a lesbian couple. They were dressed very strangely and were looking at clothes. My mother-in-law was talking to them about a problem she had with a mutual friend. They were coming up with a plan to deal with the problem. The next thing I knew I was in a small sailboat with Mick Jagger. It was bigger than a Sunfish, but smaller than Dan Echavarren's boat. We were in a small bay and he was trying to catch fish with a net. He kept leaning over the side of the boat, sometimes he'd jump in the water and come back with fish. He pulled out two small fish. They weren't what he was looking for so he threw them back in the water. He pointed out to me the fish he wanted to catch. The water was very clear so we could see all of the fish swimming beneath the boat. He reached into the water again with the net and snagged it! It was a very beautiful purple swordfish. He pulled it into the boat and took it out of the net. He left it there on a seat. I asked him if he was worried about it jumping back into the water (which it seemed would be easy to do based on where he left it). He showed me the scales on the fish. They were very large. He told me that the size of the scales limited the fish's mobility, so it really couldn't move that well and he didn't think it could jump back into the water. Then I remembered the swordfish that were caught on the Andrea Gail in The Perfect Storm and thought they moved and jumped a lot and I realized that it must have just been cinematic magic. Then I woke up.
Reality: None
After feeding the little guy at 4:30 am, I had this dream: It was lunch time and I decided to go for a run (using my lunch hour for it). I was running down King St (it did not look like the King St that I currently know) with Jack Perkins. I was running barefoot. I decided to make a right turn on to a side street, he continued straight. When I turned, there was a woman running or walking next to me. She said "watch out - broken glass!" I looked down and I was standing on top of broken green glass. So I sat down on the road quickly to make sure none of the glass was stuck in my feet. I didn't see any. When I stood up, I noticed a little blood running down my leg. My left leg was cut near my knee (it happened when I sat down to check my feet). The woman next to me told me that her friend lived nearby (across the street in fact). We walked over to her friend's house to see if she could give me a wet paper towel or something to wipe the blood off with. Her friend answered the door with a mixing bowl in one hand and a spoon in the other. She was mixing some batter in the bowl and had her phone cradled in her shoulder. She was talking to someone, so she couldn't help us yet. Then I noticed I had another cut on the back of my left leg. This one was very bad - I could see a severed artery or vein and blood was pouring out of it. I knew this was trouble! Just then a guy came over and pointed to another cut - this one was on my right leg. It was in the same condition as the bad one on my left leg - severed artery/vein. I started to panic because I thought I would be losing too much blood tooo quickly. I was trying to hold a paper towel over the bad cut on my left leg and I was applying pressure to help stop (or, at least, slow down) the bleeding. I realized I would have to go to the hospital. I was trying to decide if I should call an ambulance, which I was afraid would be too expensive or if someone could drive me there. But I didn't really know anyone and who would take a bleeding stranger to the hospital and risk staining his car forever? Fortunately I woke up then before any decisions had to be made.
Reality: None
James, Berke and I were going somewhere with James' parents. All of a sudden, I saw a house that I knew to be that of one of my sorority sisters that I hadn't seen since leaving school. We stopped there and went in. Her husband apparently was a cook and her house was part-restaurant. Since we were all hungry, we sat down at a table (there was only one) and placed orders. He made us delicious food. I went over to talk to Jill (the sorority sister). She had a baby who looked older than Berke. It was a girl. I asked her how old the baby was. Then I went over to get Berkeley and saw that he was much bigger than her baby. I told her that I knew she went to chiropractor school and asked how she liked her profession. She told me that she is a foot doctor. I then realized that I didn't bring food for Berkeley and he seemed hungry, so I thought I'd better distract him. I asked Jill where she lived because I told her that I lived in Georgia (which is where we were in the dream) and she said that she lives in Sterling, Georgia. I told her that I wasn't sure where that was and asked if she was sure she didn't live in Sterling, VA (remember I am in her house now - d'oh!!). My father-in-law asked her husband if he took Visa or MasterCard because he wanted to pay for dinner (although we were unsure as to whether we would have to pay because we were friends, sort of). Her husband said "yes," so my father-in-law left his credit card on the table. Just then I noticed a big screen tv behind the table and found a keyboard and entered my email account. I had several emails from James that were video-type files. I opened one, then Jill noticed and thought I was in her email and looked quite noticeably perturbed. She said that she didn't give me permission to go through her stuff. I explained it was my email and I was sorry for using her computer without her permission. Then everyone left the house, except for me. I walked over to Jill and told her that I'm sorry that I dropped in unexpectedly, but I really thought about her a lot and that I had wanted to see her for a long time. I also said that the food was delicious and I was really glad to see her and I hoped she was doing well. She had tears in her eyes because she had been kind of mean to us. I left and saw James and someone else walking down the road. I told them we should go now. James' dad pulled up in an old gross Clampett-esque pick-up truck and we were all supposed to jump in. I looked around and saw James' dad in front seat, James' mom and Berkeley in the back seat and James and I were just standing there wondering where to go. So he got in the front seat and I climbed in back (some pick-up truck with a front and back seat, huh?!). Then I noticed that our friends, Susan and Pablo needed a place to sit. They jumped in the bed of the truck, which I thought was unsafe and I was worried about them there. After a few minutes of driving, I noticed a gas station sign that said gas was 48 cents/gallon and I said that we'd better stop and get gas. We all got out of the truck. The gas was really an unadvertised 24 cents a gallon, but the owner of the gas station said that we couldn't fill up the old truck with his gas. Fortunately we had another car (a small car, like a compact car - it was green) in the bed of the truck, where Susan and Pablo were. We pulled it out and filled that one up. Then I asked James if he brought the gas cans for the lawn mower and he said he did, so he pulled 2 big red plastic cans out and we filled them, too. That's all I remember.
Reality: Jill did go to chiropractor school in Georgia. Our mower ran out of gas this past weekend. We had to steal gas from James' parents.
Kim was preparing to take a shower in her mother's home. There was a very large window in the bathroom that was apparently not covered. Therefore Kim, modest as she is, instead of taking her clothes off she was putting on gauze bandages. Nan Brent was in the bathroom with her. Apparently Nan sells homes in the South Pacific because she was talking to Kim about properties in Fiji. Nan did not seem to be affected by the fact that Kim was showering while talking to her. Nan mentioned some pricey homes in Fiji but then asked, "Do you know where you can go for a good deal?" Kim answered with another question, "Not Bora Bora?" Alas, Kim's dream vacation spot was the answer. During the conversation Kim has put on a skirt and top.
Meanwhile Kim's mother has a date with a millionaire that she used to see. He picks her up in his plane.
Reality: Nan is a real estate agent in Northern Virginia. Kim's mother's bathroom did have a relatively large window in it until her uncle changed it. Bora Bora is Kim's dream vacation.
Kim was the keyboardist in the 80's band Naked Eyes. The group was performing in a classroom attached to another room. The band members (a singer, guitarist, drummer, xylophone player and Kim) were in the classroom, although Kim's keyboards were in the room next to door. The classroom was full of fans waiting for the band to play. They started the first song, which didn't have keyboards in it which allowed Kim to just hang out and listen. Then there was silence before the next song. Kim went to the attached room and stood at the keyboard set. There were 3 separate keyboards linked together. The xylophone player played one note--Kim's cue to begin. That's when Kim realized that she didn't know any Naked Eyes' songs AND didn't know how to play keyboards. She did nothing. Soon the other band members came into the room and the singer said, "I knew it! You couldn't hear the cue because the keyboards are too far away." Everyone started to move the keyboards to a location closer to the door to the other room. This involved moving beds and other furniture that was in the room. Soon the keyboards were in a position that satisfied everyone, except Kim still didn't know how to play them. Fortunately, she woke up before having to embarrass herself any more.
Reality: Kim knows "Always Something There to Remind Me" (but not on keyboards).
Kim was helping Bob Barker in his show The Price Is Right (kind of like Janice or Dian), except this show was very different. The 4 contestants had to make a recipe that Bob suggested. He told them to make flan. They were making flan using eggs and frying pans. Kim could not figure out how they would make flan using just eggs and frying pans. One by one they finished and Kim had to take their finished creations over to Bob Barker to test them. Then he would select the winner of the competition. One of the contestants said that he thought Kim should taste all of them also. So Kim took a sample of each. Kim decided number 2 was definitely BAD and the others tasted and looked about the same: like apple pie.
The next thing Kim knows she is in the parking garage at work trying to find a parking place. The garage was like the one at Pentagon City mall because there was open air parking. A section of the garage was cordoned off because some celebration was going to be taking place there. Kim and I parked and started to walk to her office. Kim then saw Wendy Earle and Marni Wilson. Kim told me to wait a minute because Kim had to talk to them. Kim ran over to tell them that she had married and moved. Kim wanted to ensure that Wendy had our new address because she helped coordinate the 10 year class reunion and Kim wanted to attend subsequent reunions. Kim asked if they worked at Skyline also (since Kim had never seen them there). Marni said, "I work right here." Kim said, "where? In the tower?" She said, "No, right in the parking garage."
Next Kim was in the elevator with Mike Karsonovich (another high school classmate, one who harassed her a lot in school and then went on to West Point) going up to her office. Kim wanted to show him her office. She walked in to her office (which was a much bigger and nicer office than she really has) and most of her co-workers were in there sitting in a big circle. There were stuffed animals all over. Ron made one make noises like crickets, then told Mike about what a great employee and how well-liked Kim is. Kim walked over to the computer where Sheri sits and sat on the couch there (not present in real life). Nina went with her. While they were looking at a computer program that wasn't working correctly, Kim told her that she had to tell her something. Then Ron came over and sat beside them. Nina asked what Kim wanted to tell her. Kim didn't want to tell her in front of Ron, so she didn't. Next Ron asked Nina how much her husband makes. Ron said, "I bet he makes nineteen thousand." Kim said, "Did you say nineteen or ninety?" He said, "Nineteen - he makes so much that Nina could stay home." Kim said, "I think he makes closer to ninety with all of his overtime!"
Reality: Kim & Bob no longer work together. Flan is better prepared in a baņo de Maria. Wendy Earle and Marni Wilson are two of Kim's high school classmates. We can neither confirm nor deny the salary of Nina's husband.
Kim & I had Jon over to our house. Kim went to the kitchen to get Jon some food and my sister Amy was in the kitchen using the microwave. Once Amy was done, Kim warmed a donut with butter on it. My father then appeared and told Kim that my mother wanted him to go to Oklahoma City because he found a bomb in his suitcase. Kim asked if he called the police. He replied that he had not because the customs office, the police and PriceWaterhouseCoopers were all bidding on a big project & he thought that one of the competitors probably planted the bomb in a scheme to make PWC lose the contract. Kim then saw my mother in the dining room looking pale and anxious about the situation. Kim returned to living room with the warmed donut for Jon. She looked at me like she had to talk to me in private. She was worried that we lived too close to my parents and that an explosion at their house would hurt us too.
Reality: Jon frequents our house although not necessarily in want of buttered donuts. To my knowledge my father's firm, PWC, is not in competition with any public entities like the local police or customs for any business. Also, our house was portrayed by Kim's Grama D's house in the dream.
Fran Mooney came to Ron's office to talk. She entered his office and shut the door. After a while people from OCIJ were complaining that smoke was seeping into their space from Ron's office through the air ducts. Kim found out that Fran was smoking and Ron, wanting to fit in, was smoking with her. When she confronted Ron with disgust about his re-found habit, he admitted that he had given it a lot of thought and decided to smoke again.
Reality: Ron (Kim's boss) does not smoke anymore and we have no evidence that Fran (another EOIR employee) does either.
Both our mothers are being kidnapped in Kim's mother's house. Kim sneaks in to turn on the dishwasher to distract the kidnapper so they can escape.
Reality: The house in the dream playing Kim's mother's house isn't her real house.
Kim is walking toward a barrel like the clear plastic pretzel barrel in our kitchen. This one, however, is not filled with pretzels but $1 bills. Among the cash there is hidden a check for $750,000. This is the winnings for a McDonald's game of some sort. Kim retrieves the check and tries to find the owner. Soon she realizes it is quite impossible to find the real winner. She thinks it would not be proper to claim the check for herself because she doesn't eat at McDonald's. She comes to realize that since she cannot find the winner she might as well claim it for her own. She then discovers that there is only one bank that will accept this check--which bank is not too clear either. So she tries one bank and they refuse. They point her toward a second bank, her own. She goes to her bank with her passbook and tries depositing the check into savings. Despite the fact that she has gone to "the best teller" in the bank, this takes about a half hour because McDonald's figured the interest wrong. She woke up before the check cleared.
Reality: We have a clear plastic pretzel barrel in the kitchen. However, it is filled with pretzels. When we have people over for dinner, regardless of what Kim has prepared, everyone wants a pretzel.
My mother calls Kim quite worried. She reports that Angela has been trying to reach me all day but has been unable. So Angela called my mother and my mother called Kim.
Reality: No reality base.
