It's the Sublime time again, and it's all Grace can think about. Trying and failing every year (and being nicknamed "The Susan Lucci of the design world" by Will), she is losing hope. Seeing that she is in dispair, and seeing the apartment a mess, Will hires April, a cleaning woman. While cleaning, April finds a design for a meditation room crumple up on the floor, and convinces Grace to continue working on it with a unique method--loud screams.
It's the day of the competition, and while Grace is there and set up, she's worrying about April, who promised to be there, but has yet to show. Karen, who is there, makes a point to show Grace that even though she was constantly praising April, Karen is the one who is, and will always be, there for her. That is, of course, until she has to go for her salt scrub. Will enters to find Grace rearranging her furniture, and, while tryng to stop her, reveals that he gave April one hundred dollars and a coupon for a free mop to get her not to come. Grace is angered by this, but in the end proves that all April contributed was loud screaming when she wins the competition.
Meanwhile, Jack believes he has finally met "the one." While at a bookstore, reaching for a copy of The Making of "Beaches", he meets Alex, and they hit it off. What Alex doesn't know is that Jack isn't telling the truth, and he believes that Jack is a lawyer.
Alex gives Jack the "You're a great guy, but..." speech, saying that they are in two different worlds. Jack is a lawyer, so he thinks, while he is constantly between jobs. It is here that Jack revealse that he has been lying this whole time, in hopes of saving the relationship. It fails, and Alex breaks up with Jack. He leaves, but not before asking to be set up with Will, to which Jack replies, "He's straight." And so continues Jack's quest for love
GRACE (to April): You know, Mary Poppins got the same message across, but she did it in a nice little musical number. You're like...you're like a spoonful of whoop-ass.
WILL: Excuse me, but what vibe are we blowing here? I mean, you've been up for three days, and all you've drawn is an outline of your hand...made into a turkey.
JACK: Alex, will you give me and Will a minute please? We gotta go over some, uh...
Did You Notice... Back to Season One
Summary: The Sublime Design Showcase. A yearly event that promotes the great talent of many interior designers. A yearly event that leaves Grace stressed out.
April's method proves to be successful, and it results in Grace bringing her to work daily, thinking that she is the only way to win. Karen, annoyed and somewhat threatened by her, reminds April that in the end, it will be Karen by Grace's side. April is taken aback, but sticks with her feeling of only wanting to help Grace, which makes Karen back off.
Panicking when Alex wants to meet up with him at his office, Jack asks Will if he could borrow his office. Will agrees, and plays along as Jack's assistant. All goes well and Alex believes Jack's lie. All seems well in the relationship until Alex comes by the office one last time.
GRACE: It was supposed to be a cow. See, I told you I suck!
WILL: Torts?
JACK: No thanks, we're gonna go for Chinese.
~Gary Grubbs is included in the main cast credits, yet he is not in this episode.
