Summary: Grace tries to light a fire in her fireplace and her apartment fills with smoke. She tells Will about it, who in turn tells her that three years ago, the fireplaces were being brought up to code and it got too expensive, thus her fireplace, as well as half the fireplaces in the building, have been sealed shut. Of course, as president of the tenants' association, Will's fireplace works.

This upsets Grace, who attends the tenants' meeting to bring up this injustice. During the meeting, Grace finds out that elections for president of the tenants' association are the following week and decides to run against Will.

Meanwhile, Karen accidentally looses Jack's parrot Guapo. Jack feels terrible, but his pain is eased when Karen takes him on a shopping spree. Just before they leave, Guapo returns. Jack doesn't want to loose Karen's generosity, so he continues to act like Guapo is gone and hides the bird in the closet.

At the apartment, the election wars are on, complete with vandalizing posters (Will), name smearing (Grace), and bribery (Will and Grace). Come election night, Grace has a whole election speech, whereas Will merely says, "Change is bad. Vote for me". Still, the election results are tied 18-18. The remaining tenant, Mr. Munitz, is in the hospital for a hernia operation.

Meanwhile, Jack starts feeling guilty about all the things Karen has done for him to make up for loosing Guapo. When Karen gives him the keys to his new boat, Jack breaks down and confesses to his charade. Karen reveals that, thanks to cameras all around Rosario's bedroom, she's known all along about Guapo's return.

Will and Grace head to the hospital to get Mr. Munitz's vote. There, the barely-conscious man votes for Grace. She is delighted, until Will informs her of all the new duties she has now. Suddenly, victory doesn't taste so sweet.

Quotes
GRACE: All I wanted to do was spend a cozy evening at home by myself, so I try to light a fire, and the next thing I know, the entire apartment is full of smoke.
WILL: Did you check the flue?
GRACE: Yeah.
WILL: Did you use dry wood?
GRACE: Yeah.
WILL: Did you know that your fireplace has been sealed shut, effectively rendering it nonfunctional? GRACE: No.
WILL: Might be your problem.

----

GRACE: How come your fireplace works?
WILL: Because I'm sleeping with the president of the tenants' association.
GRACE: That's you.
WILL: Yes, and I'm tender but rough when I need to be.
----

Why is this discussion closed? Give me one good reason why.
WILL: Uh, 'cause.
GRACE: I'm gonna need a little more than that.
WILL: Ok. Because.
----

GRACE: You're having a tenant meeting. I'm a tenant with an issue.
WILL: You're a tenant with a lot of issues.
----

MRS. PRESSMAN: Somebody stole my umbrella.
WILL: Is this a new umbrella, or is this the same umbrella we discussed July 28th, August 28th, and the September 10th special umbrella meeting?
MRS. PRESSMAN: It's very similar to the one Tim Kaiser in 12B has, is all I'm saying.
----

GRACE: He's not your president. He's not acting like a president. He's acting like a king. Or in his case--
----

JACK: Look at you all "street." You're like notorious D.O.G. [RAPPING] I'm the pooch with the cold, wet snout; if you sniff my butt then I'll ask you out. Word to the bitch.
ROSARIO: I told you to keep that dog off the bed. I made it once today. I don't want to make it again.
JACK: Rosario? A marriage is about compromise and compassion, ok? Maybe you could, oh, I don't know-- pick one.
----

KAREN: Oh, honey, what can I do? Do you want another bird?
JACK: No! How can you even ask me that? If my grandmother died, would you bring me another racist dowager with a purse full of diabetic candy?
----

KAREN: Come on, honey. Let's go shopping.
JACK: I don't want to.
KAREN: We'll go to Barney's.
JACK: It won't help.
KAREN: We'll skip the sale rack.
JACK: [LOOKING UP] I don't know.
KAREN: I'll let you French kiss me in the elevator.
JACK: Well, maybe just an hour.
----

WILL: "Vote for Grace, win the race." That's cute. Shouldn't the rhyme go more like, "Vote for Grace, she just wants to get it on in front of a fireplace"?
----

GRACE: Will, you can't win all the time.
WILL: Really, I can't? 'Cause it seems like I have my whole life.
----

GRACE: When they tally the votes, the person who laughs last is gonna be... the last person laughing. Don't act like that didn't make sense.
----

JACK: Guapo, the closet's not that bad. Will was in there for 20 years.
----

JACK: Oh my god, Karen. I don't know what to say.
KAREN: Say "thank you, Karen." Thank you for a boat with a mahogany deck, a cruising speed of 40 knots, and a staff of cabin boys who are either gay or questioning.
----

JACK: Well, I'm so ashamed, Karen. I'm so sorry.
KAREN: Oh, it's ok. A part of me is angry, but a part of me is proud. The rest of me is just drunk. Ha ha!

Did You Notice...
~Even though Grace lived with Will for an entire season, she never noticed his tough responsibilities as president of the tenants association.
~During the meeting, one of the tenants mentions that her missing umbrella closely resmbles the one belonging to "Tim Kaiser in apartment 12-B." Tim Kaiser was a producer of the episode.
