Summary: Grace is irritated when her new neighbour, Nathan, moves her laundry out of the machine to wash his clothes in it. When she confronts him, he blows her off, saying he has to focus on making a mixed CD for his girlfriend to get her to take him back. Grace insults him for thinking that will bring his girlfriend back, and he makes a crack about her living with Will.
Later Grace returns, intent on getting him back for his comment. This time, Nathan invites her in, but makes her wait as he makes his girlfriend's name in papier mâchè in another attempt to win her back. Grace again scoffs at this, and leaves soon after.
But she is back once more when she finds Nathan's boxers in her laundry. He appears at the doorway in a tux and invites her into the sort of romantic idea she said he should have used to get his girlfriend back. He says it didn't work for her, but figures it'll work for Grace. Grace is reluctant at first, but then agrees to one date after he kisses her.
Meanwhile, Karen is freaking out when her mother-in-law arrives in town. She brings the woman to Will's on the same night that he and Jack are going to the clubs, then secretly ditches her with them. They have no choice but to take her to the club with them.
There, they call Karen and try to get her to come and pick her mother-in-law up, but to no avail. As Jack dances the night away, Will ponderes his love life and Karen's mother-in-law gives him some advice which actually proves useful. When he tells her that her advice helped him get a date with a guy, she freaks out, not having realized that Jack and Will were gay and that she was at a gay club. She runs off and is later brought back to Karen's on a dolley.
Quotes
JACK (to WILL): "You're like a little Will-flower."
----
KAREN: "You gotta let me hide out here. She'll never think to look for me in government-assisted housing."
----
JACK: "Karen, I have seen you this freaked out since you turned forty-two...one!...Thirty-four...two...one.... Pretty girl, pretty girl!"
----
WILL: "Karen, wouldn't it be better to just to learn to deal with her? I mean, think about it. She's the mother of the man whose bank account you love. That relationship's not gonna go away."
KAREN: "I see where you're going with this, Wilma, but... I can't have her whacked."
----
KAREN (re: GRACE's outfit): "Yee-haw! look who put the ho in hoedown!"
----
KAREN (to WILL): "Ha ha ha, I got a fake laugh with your name all over it."
----
WILL (to KAREN, re: SYLVIA): "That little pocket person is--is-- is the one who strikes fear in your-- in your heart facsimile?"
----
KAREN: "Getting along with people is like Madison Avenue, it's a two-way street."
WILL: "Madison Avenue is a one-way street."
KAREN: "Oh, well, that explains why those two cops had Driver in a choke-hold last night."
----
KAREN: "Wilma, be a love and get a little snicky snack for Syl, okay? Just a little birdseed and some sugar water. You can put it anywhere. She'll find it."
----
WILL: "It's nice to see Karen, you know, put in a little effort. You know, I knew if she just reached out to her-- Karen?" [KAREN IS GONE.]
SYLVIA: "She took off."
----
JACK: "Did you try her garter phone?"
WILL: "She has a gart...? What is she, one of the X-Men?"
JACK: "Hey, when clubbing, I put my phone in my underwear."
WILL: "Yeah, that's just so when it rings, you can say, 'wanna grab that?'"
----
JACK: "Okay, here's the number, but you should know, it's only for real emergencies, like if Sonny von Bülow comes to and starts pointing fingers."
----
JACK: [INTO PHONE] "Hey, Kar. Yeah, listen. You got to come pick up the Goiter, okay? Yeah. well, see, we're at this huge party, and it's especially important to Will because, well, he has the opportunity to have his very first gay experience."
----
WILL (to KAREN): "Get your gin-soaked ass in your vodka-soaked limo and pick up your tea-soaked mother-in-law!"
----
WILL: "Sometimes you just have to be a little tough with her." (BEAT) "She's not coming, is she?"
JACK: "No."
----
GRACE: "Something you said yesterday really stuck in my craw."
NATHAN: "What's a craw?"
----
JACK: "It's official. We're dating."
WILL: "Which one? The one on the right or the one on the left?"
JACK: "Yes."
----
GRACE: "The gullet of a bird or insect."
NATHAN: "What?"
GRACE: "Craw. That's what a craw is."
NATHAN: "Well, hmm. now I can finish my Cheerios without wondering 'why are we here?'"
----
WILL: "In the eighties, when I was wearing safety-pins to look cool you were wearing them to stay dry."
----
WILL: "The truth is, if it weren't for you, I probably wouldn't have met that guy."
SYLVIA: "Guy?"
WILL: "Yeah. Scott."
SYLVIA: "You're a fag?"
WILL: "What?"
SYLVIA: "I helped a fairy get a date? Oh, I-I'm going to hell!"
----
JACK: "Ok, it's over with those two, but I met my rebound couple, Bob and Chuck."
SYLVIA: "You're queer, too?!"
JACK: "As Christmas in Bloomingdale's, girlfriend."
----
SYLVIA: "Oh, I'm surrounded by homos! Homos, homos, homos!"
WILL: "Just quiet down, Sylvia."
SYLVIA: "Get away from me, you fruit! Oh, I'm a fag hag! Oh..." [BLOWS WHISTLE]
ALL: "Whoo, whoo! Whoo, whoo..."
Did You Notice...
~Grace doesn't know how old Karen is, but Jack does.
~We finally find out Karen's real age: Jack comments that he hasn't seen Karen this freaked out "since you turned 42".
~The Atom Bar that Will, Jack and Sylvia go to, is a homophone of Adam Barr (a writer/producer for "Will & Grace").
~Jack's comment about how Karen was freaked out when she turned 42 is probably in reference to the episode "Husbands & Trophy Wives", when Karen was worried because she was approaching the same age Stan's first wife was when he dumped her.
