Full Name: John Phillip McFarland
Age: mid-30s
Family: Mother Judith McFarland, biological father Joe Black, step-father Daniel McFarland, son Elliot
Notes
Jack is played by Sean P. Hayes, who won an Emmy for the role at the 52nd Emmy Awards.
He had a one man show, "Just Jack", but changed it to "Jack2000".
He had his own website called "Just Jack", which has since shut down.
He was born in 1969 but until his birthday party, thought himself to be one year younger.
When he came out to his father, Jack ended up having to give him CPR, which confused his father even more.
Kept his sexuality a secret from his mother until last Thanksgiving, when Will found out and insisted Jack tell his mother (see: Homo For The Holidays for more information).
He was once in trouble for not paying his taxes. Will helped him and it ended up costing Jack $2000, which Will paid. He was also once sentenced to community service picking up trash after slapping a metre maid.
He met Karen in the second episode of "Will & Grace".
He has an affinity for Karen.
He owns a parrot, Guappo, and a dog, Klaus Van Puppy, whom he inherited from Will after Will realized he couldn't take care of the dog and work.
He married Rosario, Karen's Salvadorian maid, so that she would get her green card and not be deported. Divorced her after she had an 'affair' with the gardener.
Lived in the back part of Karen and Stan's penthouse with Rosario while they were married. Then moved in temporarily with Will, then swaped places with Grace and moved into her apartment permanently.
He works out at the gym twice a day, six days a week.
According to his answering machine message, he has been out since 1985.
He found out that his mother had sex with a man in a Nixon mask at a pool party and that is how he was concieved. Meanwhile, she hadn't a clue who the man was.
His stepfather was never very kind to Jack as a child.
He is a big fan of Cher, and is always falling for the 'Cher card', which is when a friend, usually Will, tells Jack that Cher will be somewhere when she won't really.
He is an only child.
He doesn't get along well with Grace, though they both enjoy figure skating and "Antiques On The Road".
Met Will when he was 16 at Matt Stokes' party. Really got to talk to him in during a party in November 1985, when Will finally admitted that he was gay.
His nickname in elementary school was Jack McFairyland.
When he was 17, he told Will that he was in love with him. When Will gently rejected him, Jack said he was just 'testing' Will, but sounded pretty upset by it. This may be why he acts like he is convinced that Will is attracted to him, even though Will insists that nothing will ever happen. Will has long ago given up trying to convince Jack that he's not attracted to him and now just plays along.
Past jobs have included: ran the man-tan booth at Le Spa, Broadway usher for 2 grueling performances of Les Mis, lawyer (well, when he was pretending to impress a guy), cater waiter. He now works at the Banana Republic.
Tends to gasp and/or faint when he gets surprised.
Used to hand out his card to guys at parties: "Jack McFarland. Since 1969."
After trying to stage a protest against NBC's reluctance to air an on screen kiss between two gay men, Will kissed Jack on The Today Show.
Owns a Cher doll that he got Will for his birthday, knowing full well that Will wouldn't want it and would give it back to Jack.
Once met Cher in a restaurant, but thought she was a drag queen until she slapped him and told him to "Snap out of it!". He fainted afterwards.
In the 3rd season finale, found out his father was Joe Black, one of the Black boys, an Irish-Catholic family from his mother's home town. But he was also upset to learn that Joe had died five years ago.
In May 2001, met Elliot, his 12 year old biological son thanks to a sperm donation he made years ago. Elliot's mother worked as a nurse at the sperm bank, which is how Elliot found Jack's file and managed to track him down.
During Thanksgiving of 2001, he and his stepfather reached a reconciliation after his stepfather admitted to having not been a very good father.
Found out that Elliot's mother, Bonnie, is also gay, though she hasn't told Elliot yet.
Temporarily quit showbusiness, then went back after having a vision of God (Cher).
Started studying nursing in 2003 after finding that he had an talent for it...
...only to give it up upon graduation to continue with his acting.
Ran his own acting class, where he taught "Jack-ting".
Dated a wealthy client of Will's, Stuart Lamarack, but they broke up after Jack cheated on Stuart.
Went on tour with Jennifer Lopez as her backup dancer, but was fired. Also auditioned to be a backup dancer for Janet Jackson, but Janet decided at the last minute that she didn't need another dancer.
In 2004, got a job with the new gay-themed network "Out TV" as VP of New Programming. He was later given his own talk show, "Jack Talk".
