GETTING TO KNOW THE REAL JONATHAN KNIGHT:
Jonathan is a tall, dark, and handsome Knight in shining armor.
He was the oldest New Kid and sometimes played big brother to the other
guys, sweet and shy Jonathan was never one to steal the spotlight. In
fact, he's was the only New Kid that didn't have a solo song on
Hagin' Tough. Jonathan said " I just didn't feel ready for it".
Jonathan often took backseat to his young brother, Jordan. But anyone
who thought his role in the New Kids On The Block was any less important
couldn't be more wrong. As talented as he was quiet, Jonathan was a
major force in the band.
As a child, Jonathan was a little less shy. Him and his younger
brother Jordan used to sing in their church choir, impressing
churchgoers with their beautiful harmonizing. Born Jonathan Rashleigh
Knight in Worcestor, Massachusetts, on November29,1968, growing up Jonathan always talked
and dreamed about how one day he was going to be famous, he didn't know when or how he
just knew he would be. His mother Marlene never discouraged him just
encouraged him to pursue whatever he was interested in.
When he told her that he wanted to become
a musician,
she didn't try to discourage him. For this, Jonathan will always be
thankful.
"It's difficult enough growing up, but without the support of
your parents, it's almost impossible." " I was lucky to get such
encouragement from her." Even at such a young age, Jonathan knew that
music would play an important role in his life. And when his parents
suggested he spend his summers working at his singing, he jumped at
the chance. While some of his school friends spent theirs summers
looking for things to do, Jonathan attended the Royal School of Church
Music, which was held at various college campuses across the country.
And when Jonathan was in high school, he enjoyed singing and acting in
musicals.
All the hard work and devotion paid off when Jonathan
Joined the New Kids. He's a star in the music world. He often thought that after the New
Kids calmed down, he could get back into acting, as well. But as the years have past
Jonathan has found his self a new career as a realest agent.
Jonathan said he enjoyed almost all the aspects of being a celebrity,
except one. Although he appreciated the affection of his fans, it
bothered him that he can't do normal things with out fans noticing.
"Like when they would come back from a show, there's was always a
lot of kids
running around the hotel." " After a show, we just want to take a
shower and go to bed. So we would take showers and run out into the
hallways in a bathrobe, and there would be all these girls standing there
and then they all would
start screaming" Fortunately for his fans, this bashful guy
learned to deal with all the
attention.
Jonathan prefers that people call him Jonathan rather then Jon,
although hardly anyone does. Jordan, Donnie, Joe, Danny, his family
and his friends may describe him as being the shy guy in the band, but
you have to understand what that means. When the Cover Girls (one of
the many bands that opened for the New Kids during their Hagin' Tough
tour) were asked if Jonathan was shy,they all said NO WAY! Of all the
New Kids, Jonathan was the dude who used to go visit them for a bit.
He liked to chat with them and just find out what they been up to the
day before the show. He may look very introverted and reserved, but
Jonathan is very outgoing and loves to talk! However, Jonathan isn't
the type of guy who would enjoy being trapped by a mop of screaming
fans. But if you think about it who would? It's really kind of scary.
A situation of this type will immediately provoke Jonathan to withdraw.
One of Jonathan not-so-fond memories was when dozens of fans swarmed
around a Jacuzzi he was relaxing in at a hotel. "I felt like a fish
in an aquarium," says Jonathan of the experience.
Jonathan really loves to shop! The other Kids didn't nickname him
"GQ" for nothing! Jonathan enjoys buying stylish clothes and really
likes the sensational effect of mixing white and black-colored clothing.
Although Marlene Knight was a little worried that sudden fame and
fortune would spoil her sons and possibly turn them into show-biz
brats,she really didn't have anything to worry about. Jonathan and
Jordan are really down-to-earth guys who aren't interested in material
things.Jonathan loves the simple things in life. When the New Kids toured
Japan, Jonathan spent some of his spare time feeding chickens on a farm
rather than working up a sweat in a hot Tokyo disco.
If you were ever to bump into Jonathan on the street rather the screaming
and getting all excited, try starting a conversation with him. But don't ask
to many question about the group.Try starting off the conversation off by
talking about something you might have in common. Jonathan loves to talk
about animals. Jonathan has always had a special place in his heart for
animals.
When Jonathan was young, he had lots of pets such as: rats, dogs, chickens, rabbits,
ducks, pigs, and even a pony. When Jonathan was on tour he loved to take his
Shapi puppy Nikko when ever he could. When ever Nikko would go on tour with him you
would think that he would sleep with Jonathan, but that was not the case, Nikko
apparently didn't like heights. So Nikko would cuddle up on the bottom bunk with Jordan.
And when he couldn't take him on tour he would leave him with his nephew Mathew.
Jonathan used to sleep with the bathroom light on in the hotels.
