Lance sat in the window seat staring into the dark night. It was May 4, both his birthday and his anniversary. He was alone. His boyfriend Josh had forgotten both. They had been drifting apart over the past couple of mouths. Josh spent less and less time with Lance and more time in the studio. Or so he said.

Lance sighed and remembered the first time he noticed a hicky on his boyfriends neck. One that he hadn’t put there. They had not made love in a week when the mark, big and red, showed up on the slender brunette’s neck. Lance had been devastated but hadn’t said anything. It had really pissed him off that the others had known. Lance leaned his forehead against the window glass and let a few tears run down.

Justin, Chris and Joey had thrown him a party earlier and the fact that Josh hadn’t been there stuck out like a sore thumb. “Hi-ya Tom-kat.” Justin’s voice interrupted Lance’s brooding. Justin had given him the nick name Tom-Kat a couple of weeks ago while they were all vacationing at the Bass house. Lance had always enjoyed playing with yarn while his mother knit. He had started playing with it in front of the fireplace on that vacation when he found himself tangled in it. The guys started laughing and his mother ran to find a camera. They had all told him that he looked exactly like a cat and when Lance saw the pictures he had to agree. There he was in front of the fire place completely covered in yarn, his green eyes flashing.

“What do you think?” Lance snapped back to reality.

Justin was staring at him. “You didn’t hear of word of what I just said did you?” Justin whined, aspiration think in his voice. “Sorry Justin. I was thinking about something. I’ll listen this time. I promise.”

Justin’s face was unreadable of a second and then said. “Jace must be working very hard on this new C.D. I hope it is something fantastic.” I shook my head.

“Stop it Justin. I’m not a fool. Both you know and I know that he hasn’t been in the studio. He has been fucking that Bitch Bobbi.”

He shut his eyes and fought to keep the tears from streaming out. He felt strong, thin arms wrap around him.

“Why do you put up with that Tom-kat? You deserve so much better then that.” Justin whispered into his hair.

Lance leaned into the embrace. “I just don’t want to be alone. And before you go on to tell me that you and the rest of the guys are there don’t. Because even though you are there, you aren’t in the way that I need.”

The tears streamed down unchecked, Lance having given up trying to hold them in. A hand stroked his spiked blond hair. “Well maybe some of us want to be there for you in that way Lance.” Justin’s voice held a note of desperation. Lance looked up his green eyes asking a silent question. Justin smiled and pulled Lance closer. “I think I’ve loved you from the moment I saw you but you only had eyes for Josh. It tore me apart when you first started dating and even more so when he told me he was cheating on you.”

He pressed his lips into the blond locks. “I told myself I would never have a chance with you and you were so young then. I pushed all thoughts of you like that into a corner and went for someone more likely to love me. I now regret that.” Lance’s normally deep voice went even deeper. Justin pulled away from Lance and stared into his cat like eyes. Feelings and thoughts were conveyed as their lips met in a passionate kiss. Lance pulled away and laid his head on Justin’s chest feeling loved in the way that he craved. He did not see the tall figure in the doorway. Justin did and a message was sent to the figure. Josh nodded and closed the door leaving the new lovers together. It was May 4 still Lance’s birthday and a different anniversary but Lance was no longer alone. And all was right.
