Pike's Peak Climb Sep 2002
23 Sep 2002 - Our office decided to hike the Barr trail up Pike's Peak to Barr Camp starting at 8:15. It is 6.8 miles with a 3600 ft increase. We completed the 13.6 mile round trip in 5 1/2 hours with a half hour break at Barr Camp. The first two miles are arduous and we completed them with the early morning sun causing lots of sweat. We had warm clothes since it was getting in the 40s at night but it was warm that morning. Coming back I nearly stepped on a snake on the trail and Erik scared the &$%# out of me by throwing stones along the side of the trail while I was walking.

Barr Trail - Climbs 12.6 miles and 7,510 feet from Manitou Springs to the top of Pike's Peak.

On the way to Barr Camp you will look up often.

2 miles into hike.
Vic- (Sweat pouring down) Come on guys, we still could be bowling by nine for sports day. Then I got movies at my pad on the side. What time does the chow hall close again? This was easier last time. Jesse- You got brews there too, Vic?
Mills - (Not even breathing hard) What your ankle hurt? Well that's it, I gotta drive us back.

Ric- I overloaded my pack, what movies do you have Vic? This is like deja vu anyways!
Jesse- How come you guys have all the same camelbacks? Where can I get one real cheap?

Erik- (Still not breathing hard) Barr Camp is so exciting.

Here I am at Barr camp, after many breaks a quite a few ounces of water. I think I sweated off five pounds getting up there in 3.5 hours.

Going down - almost as much fun as going up! Not.

Colorado Springs from above.
