Jesus said in the Bible: "Who of you by worrying can even add an hour to your lives?" Now whether or not you believe in the words of God or not, you can't help but sympathize with the validity of the quote. Worrying is of the most fruitless things we do as human beings. It causes us to suffer through events long before and long after they happen. It changes nothing and we all know this; that’s why we throw the term "don't worry" around all the time. And yet, we hypocritical humans irrationally worry about everything. So how can we be fully functional, rational creatures if we choose to act like this? A rational creature would determine that nothing good comes of worrying and would therefore classify worrying as irrational. So what is it: are we really rational, or do we suffer breakdowns in rationality? |
