WORKING WITH JULIANNE... |
RALPH FIENNES "That was fantastic. I was a bit in awe of her when I first met her. I think she's one of the great actresses. I thought I would be intimidated by her, but she's incredibly easy going. She has a great sense of humor and I think that humor was one of the things that enabled us to work together and do those very intimate scenes together." STEPHEN REA "I'm startled by Julianne Moore. She is what we call a great actress, and she's a pleasure to work with." NEIL JORDAN "Obviously I was looking for an English actress. I was worried about the accent and the ability of an American to play the role. Julianne gave an extraordinary read of a difficult scene, which was a scene that could lead other actresses to tears. But Julianne didn't do that, she didn't cry. There was this stillness and simplicity to how she played it." |

Sarah Miles,a married Englishwoman who falls for novelist Maurice Bendrix (Fiennes) in wartime London. "She is this ordinary middle-class woman who becomes extraordinary when she becomes involved in this relationship. It's always interesting to see how people deal with things when they are tested by circumstances, and she really is vulnerable behind this facade of hers." ---JULIANNE MOORE |
