Being the Best

We don’t need to be a different person to be a good storyteller. What we need is mastery of the tools of the trade.

As a storyteller, your voice, head and hands are your most important tools. These tools will help you control the audience emotion, focus their attention and hold them in spell. If you simply stand there and drone about the story, the odd is your audience will have their own storytelling.

When Emperor Akihito ascended the imperial throne of Japan, he received three objects that symbolized power: sword, jewels and mirror.

The first two are obvious enough. But you might ask how come a mirror symbolizes strength? It is a source of power only when it lets you know yourself. Knowledge of one’s own potential and strength is a remarkable power that only few possess. It is truly empowering for a storyteller to know the full potential of his tools.
