Following Bill Gates

Once, in order to emphasize the difference between IQ and EQ, I asked my class to identify successful persons they know and discuss with their group the common characteristics of these persons.

After their group discussions, I asked them to name their common choice.  In the top ten was the name of Bill Gates. It came out in their discussion that Gates was a university dropout.

Sensing a possible way to emphasize that it takes more than knowledge to be successful, I asked them, “So what do you think of that?”

“Isn’t he the richest man in the world today?” one of them said.

“Yes, he is!” My enthusiasm was mounting then. At last they are on the right direction.

My student smiled and declared, “Well, I guess I’ll drop out of school.”
