BARRE

Barre is a railing use for support. All ballet classes starts with excersizes at the barre. Most teachers encourage their pupils to dance at the barre to prepare for center work. When using a barre, do NOT grab onto the barre, gently place your hand on top of it. Lift your hand ever so often to make sure you're not relying on the barre too much.

When you are standing side ways to the barre, make sure your barre hand is slightly in front of you, so that your arm isn't curved at too much at an angle. Your arm should NEVER be behind you, because it's almost impossible to have the right posture with your hands behind. When standing facing the barre, your two hands should be shoulder lengh, neither too wide or too narrow. It gives you a better line from the chest.
