Freaky Friday

Genre/Type:  Fantasy Comedy, Comedy
MPAA Rating:   G
Major Cast:   Barbara Harris, Jodie Foster, John Astin, Patsy Kelly, Dick Van Patten
Director:   Gary Nelson
Plot Summary: Middle-aged Barbara Harris wishes she could be as carefree as her 13-year-old daughter Jodie Foster. Foster wishes she could be treated and respected as an adult, like mom. This is a Disney film, so guess what happens? Despite the timeworn premise, Freaky Friday is a fresh, funny romp, thanks to the spirited performances of its two stars. Foster is particularly funny as an adult trapped in a kid's body (which, after all, she always was). When things right themselves, both mother and daughter have learned a lot about each other, and as a result are closer than ever. Based on the book by Mary Rodgers (daughter of composer Richard Rodgers), Freaky Friday was inadequately remade for television in 1995. -- Hal Erickson ( All Movie Guide )
