| "Well, I want to look good for you," she replied. I turned her around. She wore a soft pink dress, and her golden hair flowed over her shoulders. "You always look good to me." I slid my hands into her hair and kissed her. My mouth was filled with her warmth, and the delicate taste of her. I rubbed her back, enjoying the feel of the velvet and her body underneath my hands. She pulled away. "We should get going," she said. I helped her with her coat and slid on my duster. I picked up the cardboard box full of stuff to pawn and walked to the door. "What's that?" she said, as she plucked something out of the box. I peered around the top of the box and saw her pull out the bracelets. "A present I bought for Dru in Brazil," I explained. "When I was trying to court her, to win her back again. I never even got a chance to give them to her before I caught her with the fungus demon." She slid them on her wrists and admired them. "Do you mind if I keep them? They're really beautiful," she turned and smiled. "Whatever makes you happy, pet. They suit you well." **** "You are a seriously lucky guy," said Lia. We sat at a table at The Bronze and sipped on our drinks. "Tara is the sweetest girl in the world." "You're right," I replied. "I definitely don't deserve her." "It was so nice of her to do a spell on Clem and me so that we could come here," she said. "The demon bars aren't exactly nice places to go dancing." The glamour Tara had cast concealed her antennae and made her skin appear smooth porcelain white rather than her usual light green. We turned to watch the dance floor. Tara danced with a tall, handsome man. He turned and waved at us. "Clem looks really odd with his skin all tight." She fished the cherry out of her drink and ate it. "I'm really glad it'll wear off in a few hours." "Spike?" I turned to see Anya standing behind me. "Hi Anya," I said. I turned to Lia. "Lia, this is my friend Anya. She used to be a vengeance demon." "Really?" asked Lia. "I'm good friends with one. Do you know Madalind?" "Of course I do," replied Anya. "We go back centuries." The two chatted together about their mutual friend. "Would you mind getting me another soda?" Lia shook her empty glass in my direction. "Not at all, love." I stood in line at the bar and waited my turn. An angry female voice yelled over the music and I turned to see what the commotion was about. Buffy was on the dance floor, pointing a finger in Tara's face. Clem hovered behind Tara, his hand on her shoulder. "Bloody hell," I hissed. I walked out onto the dance floor and made my way to Tara's side. She held her hand to her neck while Buffy waved Tara's choker in her hand. "You're food," she exclaimed. "That's why he's with you. You let him feed from you." The disgust in her voice was palpable. Tara winced as Buffy swung her hand close to her face. "He's not in love with you," she continued. "He's using you. You're just a snack." I grabbed Tara's necklace from Buffy and handed it back to her. "Piss off," I said distinctly, as I wedged myself between the two girls. "Make me," she said through gritted teeth. "I'm not playing, Buffy," I said. "You leave Tara alone." "How sweet," she said mockingly. "Defending your little beverage dispenser." My hand itched to smack her. I turned my back and grabbed Tara's hand. "We're leaving," I said. We turned to leave, Clem following us. "Aren't you going to take her upstairs and fuck her from behind?" Buffy called out loudly. "Does she know how much you like it that way?" Tara froze beside me. I looked over at her and she stared down at the floor, her eyes filling with tears. Lia pushed through the crowd and put her arm around Tara. "Come on, honey." She gave me an angry look. "We'll be outside." Clem followed the two girls out. I turned back and turned back to Buffy. Xander and Anya stood next to her. "Do you want to take this somewhere a little more private, Slayer?" "You're the one who likes to do it in public," she said. |
