I have played guitar professionally for 36 years and I have taught guitar for 25. Over this period and having taught thousands of lessons I have come up with a few tricks for teaching certain aspects of playing that I think are overlooked by a lot of teachers and players.
Rhythm is the most important thing that you do with your guitar in a band setting. While playing rhythm you are adding harmony which supports the vocals and makes the music. When it comes to practicing most players spend way too much time working on soloing. This is maybe 5 percent of what you do on stage. The trick is to find ways to practice your rhythm playing that are interesting. Also to realize where your priorities should be. Thats perhaps the hardest thing to do. I show you some ways to do this.
I also discuss slide playing. Not just for a unique soloing voice but to use as a rhythm device as well. I discuss types of slides and tunings. I dont think that slide should be just a tool for blues players.
